american-made pieces of shit!

Give me British, Japanese, German or Italian any day.

My bikes do not make that kind of noise. I am not trying to impress anyone with how I move through the world, and I would not be caught dead on one of those antediluvian big iron hunks of crap.

Potato, potato, potato my ass.

7. The Black Bavarian Beauty...
Pure Bauhaus stuff--form follows function and produces a work of art.

Damn shame about that truck that made a left in front of me... arrrgh, I can't stand to think about it!

8. you would probably hate our new Cobra Deluxe pipes then?
Our '89 HD Heritage Softail Classic was made in America - as were our pipes. We are a union household - and that's how we prefer to buy. We hope loud pipes save lives - where the deer and the antelope roam - and the stupid drivers.

9. Unfortunately there is no proof of that, and as
a long time EMT, I can assure you sirens do not save lives, so I really doubt loud pipes do either.

I can emphathise with the Union stance, but for the most part, your HD is not made in America anymore... just assembled.

Anyway, we are not going to resolve this here, or anywhere else. I don't really care what you prefer, as long as you don't care what I prefer.

Peace.

15. of course they do
I just witnessed it 20 minutes ago. I was in my work van coming off of a side street. Of course my view was blocked on the left because of all the parked cars. But I heard the bike coming, and sure enough here he came going way to fast. I would have been pulling out in front of him if not for the pipes. Did I hear the pipes only because I ride a bike?

17. yes, probably
most four wheel morons have no idea where the sound comes from.

I am really not trying to be an ass here. I have ridden and driven siren equipped vehicles for more than 25years and most people are completely confused where the sound comes from.

Is a siren louder and more directed than pipes?

11. give me the good old honda V4........
Edited on Sun Oct-02-05 09:33 PM by rppper
...over any other bike motor on earth....smooth power, high reving , gobs of horsepower and quiet deadly...i have owned several variations...a v30(500cc) magna(one of my first bikes), a v45(750cc) magna and sabre and a big bad fire breathing v65(1100cc)magna. 16 valves, liquid cooled, DOHC...wonderfull bikes. to bad honda only makes the v45 in the magna and the 800cc variant in the VFR now...those 1100's were tourqey beasts. i'm looking for a yamaha vmax now(1200cc v4)....hard as hell to find one for a reasonable price.

for comparisons sake, the 88cubic inch harleys only put out about 60hp from the factory...the 30 c.i. v4, right out of the showroom, was pushing nearly 70hp......harley davidson...HD....HD stands for "hun'erd dollar" which is what each part on one costs!!!!

hey, don't knock jap twin vees....smoother, more powerfull and quieter than the harley counterparts. harley's problem is that they still rely on a pushrod vee. they can't/won't change...even the evo is a rickety motor. hell, they had to get porsche to develop the new engine for the Vrod. the vrods motor is silky too. they ought to consider putting it in the buells....then they might have a sportbike worth a shit.

not mine but same color and model...V45 sabre

18. Even worse than the Harley:
Edited on Mon Oct-03-05 07:12 PM by Hardhead

The godforsaken Boss Hoss. This one is bigger than the ones I've seen locally. (A local shop used to carry them until they found there's not much market in a small town for a $30k-and-up bike.)

And yes, that's a Chevy V-8 in that thing. (I need a smiley for shaking my head sadly at the stupidity of it all.)
