Name your favorite Star Trek The Next Generation story!
"Hollow Pursuits" is mine.

I know there are others with a more sci-fi slant, which I should be preferring, but "Hollow Pursuits" really speaks out to me for some reason.

3. LOL
There are many that still hold up.

Indeed, "The Enemy" - despite one questionable point re: biology - is still fantastic. "The Defector", despite some ridiculous melodrama, still holds up extremely well. "The Best of Both Worlds" still holds up well, provided you haven't seen it in some time. "The Most Toys" is still a classic. And "Booby Trap", despite having a partial season 2 corny feel, is highly inventive.

I could go on for some time. :D

Elementary, Dear Data
Ship in a Bottle
(half of season 7)

I could go on... :D

6. Darmok
Although there was an episode (I forget the name) where Troi and Crusher discuss their relationships. It was a short scene but so human and normal.

Oh yeah, and all the bits in the first season with guys in miniskirts

Khash.

And, and, and -- I taped 'em all, so now and then I have myself a TNG fest!

14. I was so sad when Paul Winfield died.
I loved the character Darmok, and loved listening to him narrate that show on A&E, "City Confidential". His voice was so sooooooothing.

38. Best episode by far!

My son was 10 when this episode came out. He'd always enjoyed storytelling (ghost stories were his favorite), but this episode really brought it home for him. He still talks about this episode. He's finishing up his BS now, duel majoring in History and Creative Writing. I'm pretty sure the ST:TNG episode influenced him in deep ways.

Second fav: where al the crew morph into other creatures. Barclay becomes a spider--classic! :)

7. If I had to pick some to watch over and over, it would be the Klingon Wars
Pure space opera, but I love it (especially this: "K'Ehlar was my mate."). I also get a big kick out of any episode where Wesley suffers horribly (I replayed the bayonet scene about a dozen times!)

For intellectual stimulation, I prefer 'The Drumhead', 'The Measure of a Man', or 'The Offspring'.

Still, far too many to choose from...

8. Oooh, good ones!
"Drumhead" works surprisingly well despite being soap opera.

"Measure of a Man" is superlative.

"The Offspring" is something of a rehash of "MoaM"'s ideas, but it's still fun to watch.

Where they were caught in the time loop, but I've seen it so many times that it's lost something for me.

I like any of the ones where Data "dreams."

15. The Inner Light
Im shocked, *shocked* I tell you, that no one has mentioned "The Inner Light." This was the episode where Picard was zapped by an old space probe and spent an entire lifetime among a civilization (within the span of about half an hour), only to realize at the end that the civilization was extinct.

He had t-shirts made up... something to the effect of, "...and all I got was this lousy flute."

Seriously, some fine, fine acting and well written, classic sci-fi.

I'm also fond of "Data's Day" which is a bookmark episode to the classic Trek's "Balance of Terror". Many of my other faves have already been mentioned.

As time goes by, I find Stewart & Dorn's performances better and better.. and I dislike Spiner's performances more and more.

22. I loved the show, but
I don't really remember episode names. I watched every show when it first came on, too.

I think the original Borg episodes, first with Q and then when they invaded the Federation a season & a half later.

23. The one where Picard lives a lifetime as a guy from a dead civilization.
From the signal beamed into his mind. He learns to play the flute as a result and plays one at the end.

Also:

The one where Q gives Picard the choice to relive an incident from his academy days differently (bar fight with the Kiss looking aliens), and a different choice makes his life turn out much differently (he's a science officer junior officer drone).

The one where Wesley is courtmartialed for flying shenanigans at the academy.

34. I liked both of the first 2 that you mentioned
I also like the one that Picard talkes to the alien that speaks in metaphors.
I enjoy most science fiction, but really liked Star Trek Next Generation because of its thought provoking philosophy. The Picard character is also one of my favorite television characters.

And while I'm at it, let me just add that "Best of Both Worlds, Pt. II" is by far in the A-list of shitty pieces of shitty shit, right there with "Shades of Gray" and "Code of Honor".

29. One of the few decent Season One stories... Called
"Home Soil", it's a nice discussion of terraforming... I liked it.

"Too Short a Season" being my fave for the season, even though I should be liking "Conspiracy" more... The story is regarding a person who sold weapons to a government years' back. 50 years later and he not only has to see the repercussions of his error, he also tries to do a one-up to defeat his enemy... D C Fontana wrote it, as I recall...

Not that it was one of the greats, but it had resonance for those of us who are video game addicts in real life.

31. "Hollow Pursuits" is similar, though "The Game"'s take on it was
well thought out. Not just addiction to something enjoyable, but how it was brought aboard and how those who introduced the game had sinister plans of their own.

Not the best produced, but an excellent story by any measure.

crew and do medical experiments on them. And they have these vague emerging fears. That one really gave me the creeps.

The one where the crew de-evolves is cool.
