Edited on Wed Sep-28-05 09:46 PM by tuvor
Really, this time! I got confirmation from enigmatic himself.

1 am EST or shortly thereafter.

Enigmatic said my instrumental version of this Joy Division classic, all created on my PalmPilot, was "brilliant"...but I think he was being kind.

I hope Ian Curtis won't roll over in his grave.

ON EDIT: I got the time wrong.

1. Cool...I'll tune in.
Link?

That's 11:00pm Pacific, right?

Hey, speaking of PalmPilot compositions, and you...

I have a KROQ LP which features the winners of the "DEVOtees" contest, which was listeners doing DEVO covers and sending them in.

There's a version of "Joko Homo" by the "Touch-Tone Tuners" performed entirely on a touchtone phone. It's...brilliant.

If you can tell me how to send large-ish files, I'll send it your way if you want.

2. Cool! My first potential fan!
Yeah, I was told it'll air soon after 11 pm PST.

You have to register through live365.com (there's a link on www.radioenigma.com--click on "Listen").

I remember seeing the Devotee's LP at SU Records at the UofA a billion years ago, but I've never heard any of it. I'd love to hear a track!

You can send large files through yousendit.com. You can use tuvor@canada.com as the recipient email address.

Thanks, CA!

11. Crap, it won't work.
I think canada.com's mail's being upgraded or something.

Did you get a link to the file from yousendit that you can post?

(Enigmatic hipped me to the service.)

15. I'll be here.
Sorry.

I'd set up another account, but typing's so laborious since I spilled wine on the keyboard late last year.

4. And the bass line was too simple to resist giving it a shot.
Sometimes simplest is the best.

after "Decades", but that bass line gets me everytime...

9. Listening to Decades right now.
As chilly as the cold damp tonight.

Atrocity Exhibition has always been my favorite JD track. Partly because of the drums and the weird guitar, and partly because I bought Closer without having heard anything by them before. That being the first track, it was like I imagine it was for a lot of people when they first heard the Beatles or Elvis.

What a strangely beautiful album.

17. It's from another world
That's what I've always thought; Martin Hannett's production created that otherworldly sound that complimented the songs so perfectly.

To me, listening to it is the aural equivalent of seeing a ghost; I can't put it any other way. The only other record that comes close to that kind of feeling to me is "The Modern Dance" by Pere Ubu, but that's it..

18. Pere Ubu...Another band...
...that I had neither time nor money to listen to.

Too many assignments at university, and my money stretched only so far.

:(

19. Well, I'm from Clevo
and grew up in the mid 70's, so got to watch close up Rocket From The Tombs (the band that spawned Pere Ubu and The Dead Boys) come together and become Pere Ubu. The played the sound of the Rustbelt of the 70's; the sound of decay and things falling apart. Like Joy Division, Pere Ubu were true originals that came along at the right time...

20. Indeed. Much like "The Only Mistake".
Another favorite Joy Division song of mine with a very simple, but addictive baseline.

Brings me right back to the time I first started really getting into Joy Division, which was actually just a couple of years ago. I was looking at nearly a thousand microfiche tapes for the county administrative offices down in their basement. The "Heart and Soul" box set was my constant and perfect companion for a few weeks of that lonely, monotonous stretch of temp labor.

5. It'll be on at 1am Eastern Time
and 10pm Pacific time!

There will be some run-over from the OTR Block I have on (which you should be listening to anyway; it's a radio show from WWII featuring classic live jazz from people like Count Basie and Lena Horne), but it'll be on between 1-1:30am Eastern time.

And it IS brilliant:)
