one of you older kids ripped the plastic fringe off before selling it to us at your rummage sale.

16. Heck yeah!
Mine were Blue and red sparkles! And don't forget the little "clipper" things that you could put in your spokes to make that "clipping" noise! Use to win those in the cereal boxes!

19. I remember those clippers!
And then we'd add playing cards (like Rabrrrrrr mentioned), or baseball cards.

We'd get so many things jammed in the spokes, the damn bikes couldn't be pedaled! :D

They were gone by the early 80's, but must have made a comeback... admittedly, I was in college by the late 80's and not up on bike trends. :-)

33. Oh how I wanted one of those.
But my mom refused to buy me one as I already had the metal tricycle and I think she felt they were superior. My explanation that I needed one because my metal tricycle didn't have that handbreak and couldn't spin fell on deaf ears.

30. Mine didn't, but my friends had them on their bikes
My parents hated to put things like that on our bikes. They also thought that training wheels were bad and developed a sense of false confidence in children. My dad even called them "sissy wheels".

Of course, no one wore helmuts then.

31. I don't think I had those
My first tricycle looked like this:

It was 1968-68 or so. It had a chain on it, it was red and was brand new! I even had a bell. You have to understand that we really didn't have money at that time. I lived on an old red brick street, our house was 100 years old with a dirt basement. We had 4 children in one bedroom and mom and dad in the other room. So getting a flashy bike like this one was pretty cool. I thought I was special..LOL
