Napoleon Dynamite. Wha...?

How did that movie get made? The script must have read terribly; it was the performers who made it work.

I read somewhere that if you're over 25, you can't possibly "get" Napoleon Dynamite, even if you think you do.

It's great when indy films get an unexpected following/success.

Its popularity is not universal among teenagers anyway. I know a lot of teenagers who don't get it at all, and I know others who think of it as some sort of ultimate expression of their personal experiences. I suppose some of it depends on who you were/are on the high school social scale.

It wasn't funny at all, and I'm 23. The humour was dry. The actors lacked personality.

Sure, there were a couple funny parts, like when Napoleon's uncle (forgot his name) threw the steak at Napoleon's face.

Otherwise, it was pure crap.

which does actually connect more the second time you see it.

The first time I watched it, I found it somewhat tedious and boring. It's a tough film to actually get through the first time.

But I still enjoyed it. The second time I saw it I realized there was more that I connected with. I was definetely a bit of a dork in middle school...

14. I'm OLDER and I LOVED it. I find that it means nothing, but says

everything about todays kids.

The original 10 minute film its based on is included in the special features on the DVD, and it includes the very best scenes and their re-working. You can see how critical they are to the entire movie.

I know, I know, I KNOW NOTHING in the movie makes sense. I mean come on, what's the point of Tina and the casserole?

But you have to love Pedro. He is a righteous dude.

And Napolean's attempt at wooing the two girls is the epitome of teen angst and forays into the murky waters of romance... "I caught you a delicious bass..."

"It took me a while to perfect the shading of your upper lip"... THIS is how kids ARE... they really aren't "The O.C." They're dorks and dweebs and never fit in and their aunts make them eat kay suh dillas and their uncles ARE perverts.

It's so real. I just adore this film.

But then, I liked Dodgeball too.

A few months later my brother got the dvd and I watched it with him. Upon that second viewing, I thought it was absolutely hilarious. Quirky and offbeat as fuck, but that's why it's so funny.

I saw bits and pieces of so many people I've known, in Napoleon, that it just made me laugh-- though admittedly not so much the first time as in subsequent viewings. I went to school with a kid who CONSTANTLY had to go to the nurse's office for chapstick. :rofl:

One time (a few months ago) I flipping through a Kohl's sales circular at my cousin's house, and seeing a "Vote for Pedro" shirt, I asked "What's the deal with all these 'Vote for Pedro' shirts I've been seeing recently? Does it have anything to do with Pedro Martinez?" He responded, "No, he's a character in 'Napoleon Dynamite'". I said, "is that some cartoon or something?", to which he responded "No, it's a movie". So later that evening, I pulled up a review for it on the Internets and read about it. Still haven't seen it, though.

We bought Napoleon Dynamite and Shaun of the Dead on the same day and laughed our asses off all weekend.

Napoleon Dynamite was a really terrific slice of life. Funny, low key like Office Space.
