There seems to be a lack of kitty threads today!
The latest installment of Adventures in Fostering...

I took Leander and Bijou to Whiskerville Saturday. Bijou went home with her new mommy. I am amazed that no one has taken Leander. He's such a sweetie pie! I didn't want him to be home alone while I work, so I asked for a playmate for him. They said I should take Mr. Jennings. Then, just before I left, a volunteer came in with a very pregnant, quite traumatized momma she trapped. No idea when she is due, but it should be soon, because they could feel the babies moving.

Momma June Bug is hiding behind the washer, where she has been for two days. I hope she comes out soon! I also hope I can get her out if I need to evacuate!

Anyway, here are the pics from our visit to Whiskerville, and from Jenning's first days at Leander's house. They hissed and spit at each other quite a bit on Day 1, and now you can't keep them away from each other :loveya:

Your own kitty pics are most welcome!

1. I want every single one of these kitties
I wish Mr. DTBK would let me take them all. The heck with him - I'll throw him out and bring in the kitties! (just kidding, of course)

2. There are some absolutely gorgeous kitties there....
Kitties you'd swear were show quality. It's amazing to me that no one wants them  but at least they get to live in a nice place as long as they need to.

5. Thanks!
Actually, he's completely confused. My parents were over at my apartment this morning, loading up furniture I'm not taking with me (which is most of it), and when I went home for lunch he was wandering around the living room, which is now basically empty (no couch or chair), looking very lost. Poor baby.

I'm a little worried about the trip out there...3 days in a cramped cat carrier isn't going to be very much fun. Oh, and 1 night in a hotel room, a few nights at my dad's...this could be interesting. ;)

7. I had a heck of a time getting Monty and Simba to Texas from PA
I stupidly invested in some soft-sided carriers with mesh openings, and Monty chewed his way through and got out, not even an hour away from Pittsburgh! And Simba was so upset that he had diarrhea all over his carrier. I had to call my sister and have her get online and locate a PetSmart for me in Ohio so I could get some hard-sided carriers and clean Simba up! They had a lot more room to turn around in the new carriers and were much happier.

Have you considered sedating Riley? I did it when we moved from Kansas to PA, and they alternated between yowling their heads off and passing out. I didn't give them the sedative the next day, and it didn't seem to affect them. I think they were resigned to their fate by the second day!

10. Oh geez!
I was just pondering the purchase of a soft-sided carrier. They look so much more comfy, but um...not after reading that!

I wasn't planning on sedating him, though I haven't talked to my vet yet and was going to see what she suggested. I just don't really like the idea. He has been on several 1 hour car rides, and he does pretty good, although by the end he gets antsy. So...I dunno.

Honestly, my biggest concern is the litter box. I'm not convinced he'll use it in the car. I do have him harness trained, so I can put him on a leash. But he won't go for walks with it, and he wouldn't know it's ok to poop on the grass anyway. How did you handle that part of it?

11. You know, this sounds terrible
But I'd stop and try to get them to go, and they just wouldn't, so I pretty much just kept driving. Of course, Simba pretty much let it all out on his own! You might take a disposable litter box and keep some litter in your trunk and put that down for him, but I'd be surprised if he used it. I'm encouraged that he does okay on one-hour drives. My cats yell their heads off on a short trip to the vet (except Morrissey, who doesn't seem to let things get to him).

Take a bottle of your own water with you so his little tummy won't get upset and try to get him to drink some, and maybe some treats. Frankly, my kitties weren't interested in any of that; they just wanted to STOP RIDING IN THE CAR! They calmed down a lot when I reached a hotel and stopped for the night.

The soft-sided carriers were bad because they didn't have much room to turn around. Both of them calmed down considerably when they had larger carriers and could change position comfortably.

Good luck - you're in for an adventure! Drive carefully!

6. Awwwwwwww!
Leander looks like my Neo did when I got him (and the 3-wk-old is the size he was when my friend found him). Neo was also a fiesty kitten...the first thing the little 4-wk-old guy did when I went to visit him was growl and try to protect his territory (the bathroom). I had never heard a tiny kitten growl before. I shoulda known he'd grow up to be the Devil. :D

9. Leander growled back at Jennings too!
It was the funniest thing seeing this tiny, skinny little kitten growling at a cat much bigger than him! And it just didn't sound intimidating at all!
