I've been watching the first two seasons of "Dallas" and....
I have come to the conclusion that J.R. Ewing is one of the very best characters in television history. Has to be in the top 5 on any list. If not higher. What a prick! Larry Hagman is so great in the role. J.R. is absolutely everything that I hate too. He's corrupt, narrow-minded, evil, misogynistic and would stab anybody in the back for any little reason. But, damn, if he isn't loads of fun to watch on a TV screen! If Homer Simpson, Gob from Arrested Development, Stewie and Brian Griffin, Sydney and Jack Bristow, Irina Derevco, Jack Bauer, Lily Rush from Cold Case and J.R. Ewing started up a series together that just might be the most perfect thing ever. (what a stupid idea) :)

But, seriously, J.R. Ewing... what a prick! I just had to say it again.

2. I can't believe you discovered my secret passion
My one vice....watching Dallas re-runs on the soap channel on Saturday nights. I don't know why I got hooked on it again...was just flipping thru the channels one night and there it was, so watched for a few minutes and was hooked. It's like reading the National Inquirer...you hate it, but you just keep reading it.

My brother thinks the same as you...he loves/hates the character of J.R.....thinks he was the most brilliantly conceived and portrayed villian in TV history. Well, I don't know about that, but there is something about the kitsch of Dallas that just grabs you.

5. Watch "I Dream of Jeannie", then Dallas.
I think there are no two different characters portrayed by the same actor in television.

Night and day.
