Grrrr....I hate my commute
2 HOURS!!!!! 2 HOURS!!!!

I spend 2 hours on the road in each direction, sometimes 2 and a half!!!

For those who know the bay area, I drive from San Ramon (Diablo Valley) to Palo Alto (The Peninsula). This requires going over two sets of hills and at least one bridge.

I carpool and that makes not one iota of difference, since carpool lanes only exist on the North/South freeways and this is an East/West journey.

1. I hate mine, too!
Oh wait. I telecommute and I'm still in my jammies. Nevermind. :P

2. I get to walk down a tree-lined road
and watch the rabbits and squirrels play - listening to the birds sing - saying "good morning" to all of the friendly locals. That's my commute to work. :P

3. I sympathize
New York, LA and San Fran are all traffic nightmares. I think our only hope is that gas prices go so high that everyone starts telecomuting.

7. Oddly enough, I _miss_ my commute.
It was a beautiful drive through the western slope of Colorado, quiet time with good music in the car, thinking time. I sort of miss it.

8. Just. Too. Many. People.
My commute used to take almost 2 hours to go 50 miles, in the Los Angeles area. Now I work at home through the Internet, although that has involved a cut in pay. There seems to be the impression among some that the earth can support as many people as the human race can produce. I don't think so.

9. You probably make up for your pay cut
In less gas and car expenses...lucky.

I could do my work from home, but our VP wants 'visibility'...grrrr

11. Actually I average about half of what I used to make
I'm no longer on a salary, but get paid by the project. I don't get paid to show up, but only paid when I complete specific projects. But I'm much better off, because my stress has been greatly reduced. In the past, I'd often go to the local bar near my office for a liquid lunch because of the stress of the commute and the clients. And when I did get home late at night, I ate a big dinner and collapsed in front of the TV, which is a very unhealthy lifestyle. Now, I very seldom touch alcohol at all.

10. This is why they need to invent teleporting.
I have been stressing this to them for years. If they would just freaking listen to me, I could solve alot of problems. Damn them! Damn them all to hell!

12. 20 minutes by train
Sorry to gloat, but I walk 4 minutes downhill to the station, 20 minutes (if I catch the Express) into work, and 5 minutes to my office.

What's pathetic is that my no-car-needed commute and my awesome insurance coverage have more bearing these days on my job choice than the work environment or even my compensation.
