Who was British Prime Minister when you were born?
Edited on Thu Sep-15-05 12:18 AM by ih8thegop
I was born when the Goddess was PM. She makes Blair look good - heck, Reagan didn't look that bad next to her - I mean, Her.

2. I have no idea, I should know but I don't.
I have talked to Americans who don't know who the President was when they were born.

11. Here's the dates.
It's from memory which only stretches back as far as the war, and doesn't include the date within the year.

Tony Blair (faux Labour) 1997-present

John Major (Conservative) 1990-1997

Margaret Thatcher (C.) 1979-1990

James Callaghan (Labour) 1976-1979

Harold Wilson (L.) 1974-1976

Ted Heath (C.) 1970-1974

Harold Wilson (L.) 1964-1970

Sir Alec Douglas-Hume (C.) 1963-1964

Harold Macmillan (C.) 1957-1963

Anthony Eden (C.) 1955-1957

Sir Winston Churchill (C.) 1951-1955

Clement Atlee (L.) 1945-1951

Sir Winston Churchill 1940-1945

Hope that that helps.

16. I prefered the demonstration of political geekery
But I had forgotten about Earl Russell - interesting because his grandson was Bertrand Russell (3rd Earl Russell) that great giant of British philosophy. His son (the current Earl Russell) sits in the Lords as one of the elected hereditaries, being part of the Lib.Dems.

6. Now that was a REAL Labour P.M.
Blair is not worthy to spit-polish his boots.

Though I think that his son (the Earl of Attlee) is a Tory.

7. James Callaghan
Nice guy, but he was failed by those who should have been supporting him.

I really really hope that by the Goddess you don't mean that evil unhuman uncaring hellspawn commonly known as Maggie The Milk Snatcher Thatcher. She was evil. Thankfully most people are now beginning to recognize the damage that she did to the UK during her tenure.

12. She damaged the Tory party too
She was the first leader of the Tories from the right of the party. During her long reign she gave the right wing confidence that their values were in tune with the rest of the country. We are still suffering from that.

I still come across a few people who think she was perfect & did nothing wrong for the country.

Thankfully, most of them can also be found at the other end of the country to where I live.
