THE ORIGINAL LETTER:
I am really proud of our soldiers. I think what they do for us is so brave. People who protest and are against our soldiers should not have the privilege of having soldiers go to other countries to protect them. Be thankful, or go find a place other than America to live.
AND MY REPLY:
Regarding the writer who claimed that, "People who protest...are against our soldiers": that is a bald-faced lie! I've always supported the troops--so much so that I never wanted them in Iraq fighting a war that is illegal, immoral, unjust, and unnecessary.
If anyone is against the troops, it's the Bush junta, which has proposed cutting veterans' benefits by over $800 million, and the Pentagon, which has done so bad a job of supplying the troops in Iraq, many soldiers have had to buy their own gear.
Americans who protest when they feel things are wrong, understand and appreciate their freedom far more than you flag-waving Archie Bunker types ever will.
