Yippeeee!!! DID I LUCK OUT OR WHAT????
The new owners are renovating my building and gave notice to most of the building that they have to be relocated so their suites can be overhauled.

Well, it seems I didn't get a notice, so I signed up for a little meeting with the owner today.

Seems the property manager made a booboo and shouldn't have signed anymore YEARLY leases from May, but I signed mine in June. I thought I told you that we weren't signing anymore yearly leases (he shot the property manager a look)

I signed a yearly lease, from Sept1/05 to Aug31/06, and since we always have to give 2 months, the deadline was the end of June.

I lucked out, I don't have to move by Dec1/05!!!! Like most everybody else!! I'm in for my whole lease!!!

I'm never lucky.

Oh, and if I so choose, I can move at anytime during the year and NOT have to give any notice. The owner said I could break the lease tomorrow if I so choose.

thing is, I wanted to move in the spring/summer of next year ANYWAYS, so if I find another apartment I like, I can just move...

haha.....did I luck out or what!!! :)

3. Moving in Winnipeg in December would not have been pretty...
but I don't have to, I can take my time and have a nice, leisurely apartment hunt.

Man, was the owner pissed with the property manager. Poor gal, I feel for her.

4. It may have left them open to be liable to you...
If the remodeling makes your apartment untenable.

8. As in if while renovations are ongoing...
they can't provide services to you they'd be liable to pay damages for your inconvenience.

9. Nobody has ever paid for inconveniencing me!!!
This is getting better!! :)

I just love the fact I can move when and how I so choose...it's my agenda now, not theirs. :)

11. I do feel for the people who are out before Xmas...
that's a terrible time to move, I mean come on. :eyes:

They(the owners) are going to make a lot of cash once the renovations are done and they can jack up the rents big time.

But they signed me and a few others to yearly leases, so screw em, I'll move when it's convenient for ME, thank you very much.

:) this was so stressing me out. :(

10. When I move I get back my security deposit, I get moving costs...
and I don't have to give 2 months notice....

I was very worried, it may not be much, but it's my home. I like the fact that now I have options. :)
