P.S. - Yes it will take a damn lot of kicking, but who cares? We've won the Ashes (in the most esoteric conclusion to a sporting event that I can imagine as well).

and over which they're celebrating so much - is about 3 inches high.

(for the benefit of our American brethren) the ashes of a cricket stump burnt 100 years or so ago by the Australians to commemorate the death of English cricket. How that got turned into a bi-annual competition is beyond me, but however it happened, we just won it!

13. There was a fake obituary written

for English cricket after we lost our first Test to Australia; it concluded with the lines "the Ashes will be taken to Australia". Then when England toured to Australia the next year some reporters picked-up on this line and stated that they were going to get back the Ashes - then the Ozzie captain presented the English captain with the trophy.
