3. I got it through my DirectTV subscription
I paid 100 bucks for the box, 5 bucks a month for the service.

If you buy a regular Tivo, it's a hundred or two for the box and twelve bucks a month for the service.

Totally, totally worth it. I never miss a Daily Show, or any other important show for that matter. It truly will change the way you watch TV.

4. I have it and I don't know how I lived without it!
You can get a pretty good deal on the units right now and the service is affordable (especially if you can do the lifetime thing up front)

I got it as a gift for my birthday a few years ago. I think you might be able to find an "open box" unit at Best Buy quite often at a lower price. Nothing wrong with the unit, just returned after they opened the box so they charge you less for it. The service is around $12 - $13 a month or approximately $259 for the lifetime service.

Tivo gives you a 30 minute replay window that is fabulous. Pause for 30 minutes too. If you have XP or Win2000, you can network it to your pc and transfer whole shows to your computer.

If you can afford it, it is well worth the money.

11. TIVO is Awesome!

I don't know how I would exist without it.

I love Columbo and Murder She Wrote -- you can tape any program.

Go to TIVO.com and see the options.

You will be thrilled.

At first I had a hard time installing it but finally I got it !

Love it,love it!

We get the same type of thing through our Dish satellite. Funny thing
is you get kinda used to being able to rewind stuff. So sometimes when I'm not paying very good attention I think I can just rewind what I missed. Unfortunately it doesn't work with the regular radio or real life..hah. Very nice for recording shows.

5. TIVO is DirecTV's name for their digital video recorder. Dish Network
has an equivalent gizmo. Shop around, you can probably find a 'deal' that includes free equipment & installation if you agree to a years worth of service. We use Dish's system, it runs $39 a month. But both work well.

7. No, TiVo is an independent entity. DirecTV licenses the technology.
You can buy a standalone unit, in which case it has nothing at all to do with DirecTV.

14. But does Tivo work with Dish Network?
Or do you have to buy Dish Network's own version???

I'm interested in getting it, but I am about as clueless about all this as the OP.

6. Been to tivo.com yet?
http://www.tivo.com/

TIVO has totally changed how I watch TV. Fast forwarding through commercials not having to wait for commercial to goto the bathroom. My TIVO cost about $100 plus $5 per month for the service.

9. I get it through my cable system.
The box was free. I pay an extra $15 a month.

It is awesome. I love it. Phone rings - pause the TV. Record any show anytime. Rewind when you miss a line in a show. Watch 2 shows at once with picture in picture.

It is as neat as cable was when it first came out.
