I am so fucking pissed
The apartment next to me is playing music so loud -not really the music, the bass- that stuff on my shelves is shaking. I've knocked so hard on the wall, my knuckles are literally bleeding.

I called management -"We'll fix it", but so far not.

What should I do next? I don't want to start a war....

Khash.

2. When they go to bed tonight at 4AM or whenver,
have your own stereo - via a plug-in timer or whatever - automatically turn on, blaring music of your choice.

I learned this phrase from my almost-as-useless union: "Management does not care."

And they really don't.

And the only way to get people to do something is to make them suffer the fate of their neighbor. They do unto you. You do so in return while saying "you did this to me and you wouldn't stop. This is what it is like. Do you like it? Let's work on a sensible solution together." (not so patronizingly of course...)

Of course, I've noted more people in general being selfish pricks so maybe it's too late.

3. You could play some really loud music...
Or you could knock on their door and ask them to turn it down.

4. I tend to err on the side of caution as well.
You would think that the people would get the message when you are knocking on the wall, but you said that they have their bass up really loud. Maybe they cannot hear you.

Try knocking on their door and politely asking them to cut down their music. I have met some people who are completely oblivious to the disturbances that they are creating. If this does not work, then get devious.

Best of luck.

6. I'm going with hypnotoad
About 4am, Courtney Love is gonna rock their world!

Not really.

Actually the problem has been solved now -management did, in the end, solve it. They've turned the music off - which is not what I asked for.

I'm not a bad guy or unreasonable - I just wanted the volume diminished or the bass re-adjusted. I mean, they've got a baby that cries a lot and keeps me up at night. But I've never complained about that.....

I didn't want them to turn the music off, just turn it down a little.

Now I feel bad about complaining...

8. Don't feel bad.
People don't realize that when you live in an apartment you need to be courteous of your neighbors. I just moved into an apartment from a house and most people here seem to be respectful, but the couple across the hall play their music really loud and I can hear people banging on their door all the time. Luckily I can't hear the music unless I go into the hall.

7. Call the cops.
It's a peace disturbance and many towns have noise ordinances.
