Did you ever like someone a lot but HATED the music they listen to?
I am currently dating a great Lady. She's great looking, smart and has this whimsical quality that I find adoring. BUT she loves and listens to "Techno" music ALL DAY LONG!

Many here like Techno so please dont flame me. I hate Techno. Just my opinion, but I have to hear it all the time when I'm with her. And she repeats the same tracks and CD's, over and over!

I really like this Lady but the conflict in musical taste id really getting to me.

Anybody else here have a similar experience? How did you deal with it?

1. Don't rule out obsessive-compulsive disorder.
Same tracks and CD's over and over.

Just sayin'

Might be worth a try....

Good luck!

3. Ms Uly was in her goth phase when we met.
I like a lot of "goth" type music - Dead Can Dance, Concrete Blonde, etc. But I have no use whatsoever for The Cure. And she LOVES The Cure. Still.

And Morrisey (sp?) Whine, whine. STFU.

Overall, though, we're very compatible musically.

5. Married to a Deadhead ..25 year wedding anniversary next month
Bought him a set of headphones 25 years ago.

When he has the phones on and the volume up, I yell at him, "Jerry's dead!! Get over it!" He just nods at me, laughing, not a clue to what I just said.

Seriously, we settle on music we both enjoy, Buffett, Morrison. But then you have kids and you listen to Winnie The Pooh tapes, and then the Back Street Boys, and then Britney Spears.

You got it way easy right now pal.

9. Well, this Deadhead has been married to an opera buff
for 32 years. (We even had Dead music at our wedding)

Sometimes I listen to opera, sometimes he listens to the dead. We both enjoy Cats and bought Phantom of the Opera. And we have plenty of other places where our tastes overlap...pan pipes, for one.

10. That is very cool
And yes we have found common ground actually in classical music. I hope you don't think I was speaking ill of the Dead. Just Deadheads tend to overplay the songs just a tiny, tiny bit. But I guess that's why I love him.

8. My ex-wife
we had very divergent tastes in music. She was quite into the klassic wrawk thing, while my tastes skew alterna/indy/ethno/international.

At least when we split, we didn't have to fight over the CD collection!

11. show her acid jazz
it's hip it's young and it's not boring.
I like a little techno-but I'm afraid if I listened to it for more than 1 track at a time I'd have to ram knitting needles into my ears

14. Going on five years with a guy who LOVES Ozzy
And all that noisy metal shit (apologies to those who like noisy metal shit).

However, he's come around a lot. He now admits that Pink Floyd is some of the most sublime music out there, he voted (for Kerry) for the first time in his life last year and he cooks. So I really can't complain.

16. If that's your biggest complaint...thank your lucky stars.
I'd trade with ya. ;)

Is it that she is unwilling to listen to other stuff indicating a closed mind, or does she just have this preference? That's the question, I think.

Even though I find Techno repetitive and mind-numbing.

19. It's a good thing for me I don't have a booming voice.
I usually end up having to turn the music down in cars to be heard. :D

20. Yes, roles reversed
My husband can't stand my music - I listen to movie scores/soundtracks, classical music, and some opera (and occasionally oldies). And I also go through cycles where I play my current favorite cd over, and over, and over until I get sick of it and buy a new cd or revisit an old one, and the cycle begins anew...

My husband hated it at first, but, not having much of a choice, he got used to it and has become quite adept at tuning out the radio whenever it is on in his presence. Which isn't often because I mainly listen to music on my commute to and from work, when he isn't around. :)

21. Yes, I married her.
It's not really a problem though. She listens to what she wants upstairs and I have my stufff downstairs. At parties, Me and the boys are outside grilling with our tunes and the women have their music inside. It works out well for us.

22. I've had some friends with pretty bad music taste
My best friend from high school would only listen to metal, rap, and modern country-pop. And Jimmy Buffett. Pretty interesting combination...

But I've never dated someone with horrible music taste. I can see how that would be a bit harder to handle.
