I am a nomad
It's really weird living from place to place and roaming around. I am headed toward my older brother's home now. And I wonder when I will be settled.

The adjuster came today and did take an invetory of what I lost. I wonder how much I willa ctually get from the company.

I am not too encouraged by my experience. They don't value your contents as being worth much of anything. I shouldn't complain because I had five figures worth of damage to my house, which they did FINALLY pay off, but we got zip for contents. My office was one of the rooms destroyed, and they would have replaced my computer at a much depreciated price, but fortunately we were able to save it. They didn't even want to hear about any furnishings or items of that nature which were destroyed.

The other thing that made me mad was that my original insurance contract clearly stated that the landscaping was covered and even offered a price schedule of up to $500 per tree or shrub but the adjuster -- the minute he saw that my entire backyard had been crushed -- announced, "We no longer cover landscaping." Apparently they sent out some notice at some point with this change hidden in the fine print. It wasn't like I wanted $500 a tree but the cost of replacing the landscaping is considerable and even a token of a few hundred or a thousand bucks would have been a help since I have a low income in the high four figures and have been low income for more than 2 years now.

All I can say is good luck and let us know what happens.

On Edit: They are supposed to pay for your hotel and food but they paid only for our hotel and NOT our food. It's a good thing that the disaster killed our appetites because eating out is a considerable expense! If you are staying with friends, I doubt you'll get a penny reimbursing you for being homeless -- I hope you got a straight explanation of what you are entitled to from your adjuster.
