ELKHART -- When a local man didn't get his Notre Dame season football tickets delivered Aug. 16, he called the delivery service, which said the tickets had been dropped off at the wrong address.
On Sunday morning, the man found out from police that the four tickets were definitely at the wrong address -- they were at the delivery man's house.
The delivery truck driver, Ronnie J. Allard, 38, of 28220 Larue St., had told his girlfriend about the tickets and had her steal them off the owner's porch on Greenleaf Boulevard, Allard told Elkhart County Patrolman Jason Ray.
The theft, along with the theft of a telescope taken during an unrelated burglary, came to light Sunday morning as Allard and his girlfriend fought at his house. When police came to the house, the woman told them about the stolen items, Ray said.
Ray looked at the tickets and spotted the name of the owner.
Ray called the ticket owner, who hadn't reported the theft because he thought the tickets had been mistakenly delivered.
Allard was jailed on a felony charge of possession of stolen property and on a charge of domestic battery. His girlfriend was taken to a local shelter.
The tickets, valued at $10,000, were turned over to their rightful owner, police said.
