What are your favorite cajun songs. Here is one of my favorites:

Diggy Diggy Lo (Previously Diggy Liggy Lo) sung by Doug Kershaw

Diggy Diggy La and Diggy Lo fell in love at the Fais Do Do
The pop was cold and the coffee chaud (hot)
For Diggy Diggy La and Diggy Diggy Lo

Bridge:
Diggy Diggy La and Diggy Lo
Everyone knows he was her beau
No one else could ever show
So much love for Diggy Diggy Lo

That's the place they find romance
Where they do the Cajun dance
Steal a kiss with every chance
Show their love with every glance

Finally went and seen her paw
Now he's got himself a papa in law
Move out where the bayou flows
And now he's got himself a little Diggy Diggy Lo

Ah, yes give me some cajun fiddle.

3. It's a Cleveland Crochet tune called
"Sugar Bee", on Goldband Records, which was written by the great Eddie Shuler. I don't often buy original records from way back when. But a record dealer friend of mine tracked down an original pressing of "Sugar Bee" for me and I had to buy it.

I'm not too keen on the flip side "Drunkard's Dream", but I ADORE the A-side.

I've just tried to find an mp3 of "Sugar Bee", in case you mightn't have heard it, but I couldn't find one :(

2. I've been collecting LA music for years...
to go along with Mardi Gras unit in class

I've been playing bits and pieces as the kids trickle into class all his week:

Louis Armstrong -- 'Do You Know What It Means (to miss New Orleans)?'
Louis Armstrong -- 'West End Blues'
Wilt Tchoupitoulas -- 'Meet the Boys on the Battlefront' (The Tchoupitoulas are basically the Neville Bros., performing as Mardi Gras Indians')
Courtney Granger -- 'Big Misery Waltz'
Hank Williams -- 'Jambalaya'
Clifton Chenier -- 'Aint No Need of Cryin''
Clifton Chenier -- Allons a Grand Coteau'
Clifton Chenier -- 'Can't Go Home No More'
Tom Waits -- 'Wish I Was in New Orleans'
Professor Longhair -- 'Tipitina'
Fats Domino -- 'Walkin' to New Orleans'

I-Tunes is a teacher's gold-mine.

Dr. John and the Night Tripper, is that right?

Doug Kershaw and Don't play with my toot toot. Did I spell that right?

What is a toot toot?

Tutu ballerina skirt I know.

I hope to get this discussion rolling. This is great. You guys are the experts.

Now there is cajun and zydeco (sp)

What is the difference?

I am a guy who loves music big time. Never learned to play an instrument.

Music is what keeps me somewhat sane. That and long walks and hugs from the wifey and kids.

Los Romeros, Bolero- Ravel, Fats, you name it I like it with the exception of the new country western , hip hop, Spears , Michael Bolton, things like that.

Have you ever heard of Wolfgang Ambros and his "Watzman". Great stuff- best described as German folk rock.

Here is one dude who hopes you get back onto your feet.

Peace and Love.

19. I've been playing...
for over 30 years myself. Took up the piano when I was so little I don't remember ever really learning the notes...I just always knew 'em. So I hope this doesn't sound like a cliche...the music is in your soul and nothing can ever take it away from you.

Be well.

18. Another vote for Jolie Blonde- but earlier version...
The original 1928 Jolie Blonde version by Amadie, Ophy, Cleoma Breaux

In French:

Jolie blonde, regardez donc quoi t'as fait,
Tu m'as quitte pour t'en aller,
Pour T'en aller avec un autre, oui, que moi,
Quel espoir et quel avenir, mais, moi, je vais avoir?

Jolie blonde, tu m'as laisse, moi tout seul,
Pour t'en aller chez ta famille.
Si t'aurais pas ecoute tos les conseils de les autres
tu serait ici-t-avec moi aujourd 'hui

Jolie blonde, tu croyais il y avait just toi,
Il y a pas just toi dans le pays pour moi aimer.
Je peux trouver just une autre jolie blonde,
Bon Dieu sait, moi, j'ai un tas.

In English

Pretty blond, look at what you've done,
You left me to go away,
to go away with another, yes, than me,
What hope and what future am I going to have?

Pretty blond, you've left me all alone
To go back to your family.
If you had not listened to all the advice of the others
You would be here with me today.

Pretty blond, you thought there as just you,
There is not just you in the land to love me.
I can find another pretty blond,
Good God knows, I have a lot.
