Thank God for liberal mothers!

Today is the first day of school- or it will be at 12:30 when classes start for upperclassmen. But before walking off to my last year of High School, I started my day like any other... sort of.

A cup of coffee and some banana bread outside with my mother made up for all of those breakfasts I will be missing during the school year as I busily rush off for school, leaving everything but the coffee behind. A short conversation about my father (which he overheard) has left him extremely angry, but there isn't much to be done about that.

What did change this morning happened as my mother was backing her van out of the garage to go of to work. I came out of the closet. The conversation went something like this:

"What if, let's say, hypotheticaly... I was... different."
"Different how?"
"Like, say... Gandalf. Sir Ian McKellin..."
"I don't know anything about Sir Ian McKellin."
"Or like... Walt Whitman."
"If you're Gay, I'm OK with that."
...
"Don't tell dad."
"I won't"
"Thank you."

I sort of fell out of the closet with my own mother. Both of my parents are pretty conservative - but neither has a problem with it.

Glad to hear that your mother (at least) similarly realises that her child is her child come what may.

one night we were eating dinner at Uno's (YUM!) and my sister (who I told long ago) started talking about setting me up with the younger brother of a roommate... I had to kick her in the shin...

Nice to see a good mom out there. Same thing happened to a friend of mine a couple months ago. :)
