2. Uhm - they've been up to the plate for some time.
For example http://www.catholiccharitiesusa.org/news/katrina.cfm has been assisting with Katrina recovery for several days now.

6. I've been glued to DU since Sunday morning.
Been on many threads asking where the religious organizations are.
The UU link is the first religious organization I've seen step up.

8. Most of those listed by FEMA have religious affiliations
I listed the UU relief effort because I know they're more interested in saving lives than gaining more parishioners.

11. So has Catholic relief.
http://www.catholicrelief.org/

And they are quite earnest when it comes to social relief issues- and I'm not just saying that because I am Catholic. OK, maybe I am. :)

3. uus are cool!
hi goddess!

maybe I'll send them some dough. I feel very fortunate sitting here in my nice dry house on top of the hill and I hate to think of folks and their little ones who have no home to go to. :(

4. How did you fare in Pittsburgh?
I haven't seen anything about what's happened since Katrina left Mississippi.

I like the UUs' non-prosyletizing approach to religion. At least I know that their work will be entirely devoted to relief, and not some mission to save "lost souls".

5. we had rain and cool weather yesterday and today
Edited on Wed Aug-31-05 04:47 PM by tigereye
but nothing major. It looks clear for the rest of the week! My grass is actually turning green again, since we had little or no rain for several weeks, which is unusual for here. People were worried about possible flooding since Pgh took a big hit from Ivan last year.

10. No weather problems here
Virginia and West Virginia had some nasty storms and a possible tornado; but all we got were tropical breezes, clouds, and a sprinkle or 2.

I'm waiting until after Labor Day to start Timmy up on his 2nd grade work. He's very excited about it. :-)

13. Yes, we use
Calvert School, which is an academically-oriented program. We supplement with other activities to give him a chance to meet and work with other kids.

14. my son goes to a small progressive school
and I doubt I would have the patience to home school, but I admire your energy! A neighbor of mine home schools her kids because she just didn't feel comfortable with the school district (that's why I send my son, who is kind of shy) to a small school. And that's why we have no fancy furniture in the house! ;)

She really seems very organized about the program she uses, which has some internet backup, etc. and it seems that her kids are learning at a very nice pace!
