The Good News...My drink didn't EXPLODE
Last night I put a Smirnoff Ice in the freezer to get cold (fast.) As I was watching TV, I said to myself, "Don't fall asleep with that in the freezer." I didn't listen.

As I was driving home, I literally gasped and put my hands to my face. I had visions of a slushy mess frozen to the sides of my freezer (yes, I've traveled this road before.)

I got home, and there was no mess, no explosion. Yeah! I took the bottle out of the freezer, encased it in a plastic bag and let it defrost.

The bad news...I defrosted it too long. It's not as cold as I'd like it, but I'm drinking it anyway.

4. Vodka doesn't freeze
You can actually store it in the freezer. I don't know how much vodka is in a Smirnoff Ice, but maybe that's why it didn't explode.

5. It's the second ingredient
It did freeze, but you could be right, it might have changed the dynamic.

6. I always keep my vodka in the freezer.
Gin, too. It's quite safe to do so.

But not in the deep freeze.

7. The proponderance of non-water liquids kept it from exploding
The alcohol has a REALLY low freezing point, and even when it does freeze, it doesn't expand like water does.

So, the alcohol acts to also make the freezing point of the water lower.

hence, it's not very common for alcoholic beverages to freeze and explode in the freezer. Unlike, say, soda.

Though I have no idea how much alcohol is in an "Ice" since I would never subject myself to such a thing.

beer, having a low alcohol content, might explode. I would think Smirnoff Ice would have more alcohol than beer does, but I really don't know.

9. No, it's about twice yer average shit American beer
whcih basically has a legal maximum of 3.5%.

7% might be just enough to tip the scales in favor of the bottle never exploding.

15. Ah, but they are dangerous on a hot day; they slide down
like an innocuous, somewhat fizzy lemonade, then you realize you've had seven of the little bastards just as you try to stand up...
