Carl Hiaasen is damned nearly the last man standing
The Doc is gone. Zevon is gone. Douglas Adams is gone. Joe Strummer, Joey Ramone. "All the good ones are taken" is taking on a whole new meaning. America needs you, Carl Hiaasen. Quit writing about graft and greed destroying Florida and take a look at the bigger picture. America is just Florida writ large. Write us a book about Bush's stolen America. It might not change many minds, or enough, but at least we'll get a good laugh out of it.
(I'm reading "Stormy Weather." While Carl does have a slight tendency to write the same book over and over again, at least he always does a good job at it.)

4. Do you read his columns online? Miamiherald.com or bugmenot.com
His column's direct link:

http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/news/columnists/carl_hiaasen/

He has published collections of them, with two that I know of being "Kick Ass," and "Paradise Screwed" (I have that one).

He also wrote, "Team Rodent: How Disney Devours The World" and I recommend it highly!

And yes, you're right about the other voices we've lost recently. Here's to Carl Hiaasen's continued health! :toast:

5. An ex-girlfriend of mine works for some Disney outfit in Orlando
As she's a penguin-keeper by trade, I can't imagine which one that would be, but I was thinking of recommending the Hiaasen Disney book to her. Probably immediate cause for termination at the Mouse, however (just owning it, I mean).

I have recurring lunatic notions of volunteering for bodyguard duty for Carl, Neil Young or maybe Sedaris. We need all the good ones we still have.

10. Kinky Friedman's still around, too--and may end up as Gov of TX.
See, there are still good things (and good iconoclasts) out there. ;-)

John Prine's still kickin', too.
