Treat your husband like a dog?
Edited on Tue Aug-23-05 07:13 AM by caty
In 1962, Sandra Dee made a movie called "If a Man Answers" where, on her mother's advice she "trains" her husband using a dog training book.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0056093/plotsummary

Now there is a new BBC series showing women how to do it:
http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/story?id=1060569&page=1

The theory in the Sandra Dee movie was that some pets get better treatment than husbands. I'm not sure what the theory on the new BBC reality show will be.

So--Ladies: WATCH

Guys: HERE! SIT! (pet-pet-pet-scratch behind the ear-pet-pet-kiss on the snout-pet-pet-pet)

2. I find this totally abhorrent
Saw it on GMA this morning. Coming as it does on the heels of a 'discussion' I've been having elsewhere with a man who insists that more men are physically abused by women than the reverse...and that it's always been so (no woman has ever really had it bad and if she got smacked around she must have deserved it)...this show is not just A step backwards for male/female understanding, it's at least 10.

3. I know--
I saw this on GMA also. I think my mouth was open with astonishment during the whole segment. I remembered the movie and thought I would start a thread to get some opinions on it.

6. It's completely ignorant and offensive, isn't it?
What gets into people? Honestly.

7. I believe that a good
relationship is based on the "golden rule". If we treat our spouses the way we would like to be treated, and they do the same, we should both be treated very well. Respect, affection, trust, and faithfulness would be there for both of us.

9. Yep, everything you said, plus, it's just degrading to act as if
men are animals that can be trained. If this were written as a guide for men to train their wives, all hell would break loose, and rightfully so. It's no more 'cute' or 'funny' when it's aimed at men.

12. I would be ashamed of myself for going on a show like this
I respect my husband far too much to compare him to a dog. I clicked on the link to read about this reality show and my conclusion is that the dog comparison is a tacky gimmick to tell people what they should already know: couples who are respectful to one another and commit random acts of kindness for one another everyday are happier for it.

17. A previous partner used to refer to me
as "this one." And talked of training me.
So I crapped on the kitchen floor and left.
