Well, I'm assuming the Homeowners' Association will be after us now
We donated a bag of clothes to a veterans' association. My husband was supposed to put the bag at our curb by 8:30 this morning before leaving for work, but I noticed at 9:15 that he'd placed it by the front door instead. I took it out to the curb, and I hope they haven't already come by. If they have, we'll be getting a letter from the vigilantes of the Valley Ranch Homeowners' Association about not putting "trash" out until the appropriate days and times.

1. Cool - I just saw the truck going around the corner!
Maybe we'll escape the VRHA's clutches!

4. I know
What benefits do we get out of it? Nothing discernible that I can tell.

5. I had one TRY to dictate to me for several years...
Come to find out, my street was exempt from his contract. The asshat complained to the Health Department about my lawn then. An inspector came out... He is a Marine and VietVet... I've had no problems since. :)

13. We don't have one but
we do have 'code enforcement' that comes around pretty regularly and are absolutely stupid about some things.

I got a warning once for not having a shovel under my dog's ass when she took a shit...IN OUR OWN FENCED (WITH A LOCKED GATE) YARD. The yard gets scooped twice a day in summer, once a day in winter and the warning was issued at 8am on a November day.

They also insist on inspecting your property once a year, including wanting to come inside and make sure your toilet is hooked to the sewer. I don't know how long I'll be able to keep it up without getting arrested but I refuse to let them in without a warrant. I haven't been accused of anything and no one has probable cause to come into the house. My water/sewer bill is public record. If they want to know if we're hooked up, they can check that.

This is also the city that charges you a tax for getting rained on.

3. Homeowners' Associations: spawn of Satan
I know in some areas it's hard to escape them but I am so glad we don't have an HO. There are CCRs but they are pretty much ignored. Ugh.

6. My sweet little republican neighbors wanted to start one
I said ok. I'll run for every office; I'll be at every meeting; we'll have covenants that will govern every fucking minute of your life and every square inch of your property; and I will ensure I will find fault with each and every one of you and your children and your pets at least once a month. We don't have a homeowners association. They chose not to fuck with the lunatic liberal veteran with the beautifully landscaped property and the wonderful wife.

7. I wish mine were a little stricter
the pigs in my condo complex leave unbundled trash out to blow all over the woods when it's windy.

One thing that's good about mine is that there are still some wooded areas in my neighborhood where we have deer and other wildlife, as well as 7 pools, tennis courts, a park with a landing dock nearby and the best bus routes, etc.

8. You don't need a HOA to take on problems one at a time
Surely you are not the only neighbor distressed by that activity. Confront your trashing neighbors. It doesn't sound like their worth keeping as neighbors so if you hurt their feelings, its their loss.

9. I work for a development company
and I help enforce convenants before we hand them over to the associations and you would not believe some of the phone calls I get from people.
