"Station 51, 10-4. KMG-365."

I've just been informed that the 1970s Jack Webb series "Emergency!" is coming to DVD in August.

If any of you are too young to remember this series, it was the absolute greatest action show of all time. It was funny, it was exciting, and it was the TV series that made me want to grow up and enter the health care field. It actually put the fire department paramedic program on the map for the very first time.

5. I don't know why they don't remake this show
I know we have a ton of medical shows now ("Third Watch", "ER" and the like), but the beauty of "Emergency!" is that it didn't bog you down in the depressing personal stories of the doctors, firefighters, paramedics, et al. It was all about the action. Every episode had four or five challenges presented, and you were on the edge to try to find out how the good men and women of Station 51 and Rampart Hospital would resolve those challenges. At the same time, they showed some great light-hearted, comic moments, which is what firehouses REALLY have in the off-hours.

We need a series like "Emergency!" today. Life isn't ALWAYS serious and terrifying. There needs to be some fun.

10. Yep, I can still hear the bell.
When I was a kid I could do the fire trucks from the show, and even the station alarm. My dad would look at me funny. Plus I had this as a kid.
