Poll question: How many glasses of water do you drink per day?
I for one was relieved to hear the new water intake guidelines:

Americans get enough fluids just by using thirst as their guide. While water is a good choice for staying hydrated, other beverage choices such as juice, milk, coffee, tea and soda also count toward your daily fluid intake.

I figure it must be true since I've gone for years without really drinking much water.

2. I'd say 3-4.
I drink a lot of bottled water because I'm trying to stay away from soda and sugary juices. If it's really hot outside or if I'm doing something strenuous, I'll drink more.

3. Does lemonade count?
I can't put down the amount of unflavored water I'm supposed to drink, but add a touch of Crystal Light to it, and I can drink it all day long.

4. I don't see why not.
Crystal Light is just water with flavor and sugar in it. It's still water.

5. thirst is a fine guide to use when not doing strenuous activity
however when playing sports or doing physical things...once you feel thirsty, you are already dehydrated and that sets you up for a whole mess of problems. The most pesky being cramps, thats why I always tell my athletes to drink up because craps are annoying to deal with but heat stroke is another issue entirely. Just a message from your friendly neighborhood athletic trainer. :-)

I always have a drink at my side usually water and I can't honestly say how much I have to drink...it's a lot.

8. Especially important to stay hydrated if you are pregnant, because
dehydration can bring on premature labor.

A friendly reminder from your friendly neighborhood preggo lady. =)

6. What is this "water" that you speak of?

13. I've tried that---it is so hard and inconvenient
to get the basic 8 glasses in. I literally have to sip continuously throughout the day, not to mention bathroom visits. I applaud you. Maybe I'm just not active enough.

16. I sip constantly
I also have a cup of coffee in the morning and some green tea later in the day. I'm quite disciplined since I had surgery in March (WLS). It helps to keep hydrated and flush out the kidneys.

12. I thought tea and coffee were diuretic?
Making them worse than nothing in terms of hydration.

14. Lately, a lot...
I never thought it was humanly possible to drink a 6 pack of water a day, 20 oz a bottle (although it was a 6 pack of beer a night back in my college days LOL). So what changed? Experiencing the joys of being preggo all summer in Kansas, where it usually hovers in the 90's and 100's for a couple of months straight. Toasty!!!

15. how big is the glass..?? I drink about 2 gallons of water a day, I work
Edited on Sat Jul-30-05 11:27 AM by sam sarrha
in 90*+ and 80% humidity, with no ventilation or fan and 2 breaks a shift.. yea, i know but this is the South, my last job i had NO breaks and 30 minute lunch in 12 hours.

i probably drink a lot more than 2 gallons.. and don't urinate till after i get home and rehydrate till i do urinate.. just to be safe.

i use A LOT of salt and still have cramps at night.. it is hard to dose the salt.. i can tell when i need it at work because i get confused and my shoulders droop..

I got a job in a mill in a tin building throwing 1"x4 1/2"x12foot Oak boards as hard and fast as i possibly can, it isn't as easy at 56 as it was when i was a teenager.. but at least my wife, my 84 year old blind mother, the cat and 2 dogs dont have to move into the Ford Escort now. we moved here cause our jobs in Texas got outsourced to China and we weren't here 6 months before this one got sent to Mexico.
