My crappy assed father in law...
has somehow managed to get my husbands ss# again. When my husband (Jr.) was a teen, the father (Sr) got hold of it, and ruined his credit. Well, we just received a copy of Jr.'s credit, and it seems that the bastard has been using Jr.'s ss# and, once again, has ruined our credit. How does he keep doing this?? Now, I have to spend countless hours trying to convince people that all of the crap needs to be removed from our credit. ( Remember, it all has the same name and ss# we have) What a crappy assed father...and no, we haven't spoke to him in 5 years...they are out of our lives completely, except for them keeping us from getting a house, a car, or anything else.

4. That's what I was gonna say.
If you don't, then it's only a matter of time until it happens again.

12. exactly... I've seen parents have their kids arrested for this
so have the crappy assed FIL arrested, that'll go a long way in cleaning up the credit report, because then you'll have paper as documentation that it isn't your husband...

2. How has he not been brought to court over this?
It seems to me that he's engaging in outright fraud. This should be a criminal matter.

5. the first time, Jr. was very young and naive, but this time I am all
for charges, but I guess it's a family thing. I take it it's not easy to file charges against your own father, emotionally I mean. But I mean, come on!

9. Is it easier to have your credit ruined? Again?
Edited on Thu Jul-28-05 03:27 PM by skygazer
You know, people make too much of family connections. I'm all for being there for my family but that doesn't mean letting them take advantage of me or walk all over me.

It's not like they can possibly have some sort of deep, wonderful relationship if the old man is behaving like that and you and hubby are not on speaking terms with him.

edited to make sense.

6. Are you sure?
My father and I have the same name and they mess ours up all the time. According to credit reports, I have 3 mortgages..lol.
And once I was almost not able to get car insurance because I got into an accident that I didn't get in to.
I would never name my child the same as my name after the crap I have gone thru with the credit confusion concerning my father an me.

8. That's nice.
Ruin your own kid's credit, not once, but twice. That's good parenting right there.

Press charges against the bastard.

10. I read some place that this is really common.
I did read that some one in your family usually takes your ID and I was really shocked. Is that true?

13. It could just be a matter of Choice Point
Edited on Thu Jul-28-05 04:04 PM by EC
I get this all the time when I run customers credit and MVR's - Choicepoint will pick up anything with the same address (even apartment buildings, I once had a customer that lived in a complex and had 2 pages of MVR, everyone at the complex was on his record. it took a couple of months to get his record cleaned up for their mistake)and same or similar name (like the Florida election purge)-The SS# isn't the only thing used as id with this stupid company....I'm telling you once this RealID goes into effect, since they will be using Choicepoint for this too, there is going to be MAJOR PROBLEMS for everyone...
