Who would you have chosen to play Langdon in The DaVinciCode?
Tom Hanks seems way off. Who would you have casted to be Robert Langdon in the movie?

1. I'm actually pleased with the cast
I was worried it was going to be Russell Crowe, but I think Hanks is a good choice.

My second choice - Denzel Washington (yeah, I know he's black - but it's still a role perfect for him)

15. Interesting,
I've sometimes compared Russel Crowe to Tom Hanks. Crowe has a better voice, but otherwise they are similar.

I agree, I think Hanks can pull it off well. He's as skilled as they get.

21. Even Ian McKellan?
As much as I love Sir Ian, I thought he was miscast.

27. I thought McKellan was the best casting choice with Bettany in second
McKellan has a knack for playing eccentric, quirky characters quite well. If he can channel a bit of his James Whale character (from Gods & Monsters) into this rule, he'll be a shoo-in for the Oscars.

Second best pick would have to be Paul Bettany. He's show some skills even with second rate movies like "A Knights Tale" (he stole that movie) and "Wimbleton" plus he held his own against Russell Crowe in "Master & Commander". Bettany has the role of Silas, the Albino Opei Dei guy who chases after Langdon & Sophie

2. Tom Hanks as Forest Gump as Langdon would be spot on.

3. I would have chosen Harrison Ford
Ol' Harrison may be a bit too old, though. But that was the first name that popped into my head as I read it.

13. I would have picked Ford if this book was written 20 years ago
Langdon is suppose to be in 40s and there is suppose to be some chemistry between Langdon and Sophia

Tom Hanks was born in 56 so that makes him 49, pushing it just a bit for the age of Langdon in the book.

Harrison Ford was born in 42 which makes him 63, about 15-18 years older than what Langdon is suppose to be.

BTW, Audrey Tautou was born in 78 making her 27.

Bad enough we have 22 years between the 2, let's not push the age difference. I was kinda hoping that Sophie Marceau would have gotten the role (she's 39, but could easly play mid-30s) but Audrey has the hotter career right now.

5. I don't know. Tom Hanks has
played such a wide variety of characters. I think he can pull it off. Just when you think he can't do a certain character, he blows you away. I am anxiously awaiting it.

10. George Clooney or Aaron Eckhart.
Someone who could pull off intelligent and slightly roguishly charming at the same time. Just my opinion, though. I don't cast the movies.

Hanks is 49 and showing his age.

But you're right, Hanks is still a little bit too old for the part but I think he can still pull of mid-40s.

He already did a great job playing an intellectual rare bookseller who ended up on a wild investigation in The Nineth Gate. He would be perfect to play this role.

I just get worried when stars do too many movies. B/c then they risk people getting sick of seeing them (I, for one, could never get sick of seeing Depp).

I was thinking of someone relatively unknown because I too, think when actors keep getting lead after lead, we get sick of them.

For obscure: Roger Howorth. Don't laugh, he's on a soap, but damn, I've seen him do Shakespeare that would blow you away... he's one of the finest actors I've seen yet.
