8. The Rock the Vote Concert I organized last year.
It was awesome.

I almost went to Memphis in May, but after a long ass weekend we literally didn't have the energy to drive to Memphis and see Sarah McLachlan, Billy Idol, and Medisky, Martin, and Wood. I'm sure it was great but we were tired.

46. I'll still be up--I don't sleep much it seems
I'll still be performing incognito a couple of times a week, trying out some new stuff

but I'm also trying to sell one house, trying to buy another, trying to put together a concert series through the end of the year, doing a whole bunch of music biz and legal nonsense, catching up on managing my own so-called career, starting a new recording project . . .

I need a vacation!!

32. The Corrs rock
My wife and I brought her parents to a Corrs concert last summer. They never heard of them and are in their 60's, 70's and enjoyed them.

I just saw Stevie Nicks 2 weeks ago. She was awesome. My wife is a huge fan, I am a moderate fan but the show she put on was spectacular.

Keep an eye on her lead guitarist, Waddy Wachtel. He's been with her for years. He has a lot more to do with the arrangements this time around and has a bigger part in the overall show.

Also, the backdrops are very cool, most are her own artwork.

Hope you enjoy it.

94. Wow. Thanks for letting me know about Stevie. I am, like you, a
moderate fan so I'm really looking forward to seeing her. I'm so glad the show is good, and will really look smart pointing out that most of the artwork is her own. ha I also bought The Corrs DVD and watched it the other night. I am just so impressed with them and, like you say, any age can appreciate them. I liked it when they did Irish tunes more than anything; you just can't help but be carried away and start to smile. I'm always checking to see when they will tour again. We missed the drummer because she was giving birth, but on the DVD she was awesome so I want to see them again. I'm 62 and not to old to enjoy.

Just kidding, I knew that.

Actually, none of the Burma guys are still in the band. Miller left in 1988 or thereabouts to go solo, and then started a bunch of other projects. (He did sit in with Birdsongs at Berklee, however, even playing piano on "Beat of the Mesozoic, Part 2.") Guitarist Martin Swope left in about 1991 and moved to Hawaii, and isn't part of the 21st century Burma.

Birdsongs sound pretty much like you remember them, although Swope's replacement is a more polished guitarist (and terrific composer).

The opening band got tired of being messed with so they threatened to start playing '80s tunes? Then they closed with "Jesse's Girl"?

If that's the show, I was there. In fact, that was one of the first shows with the AMH name, it had been the Austin Opera House.

I think the opening act was Commander Cody. He did a really long, complex version of "Hot Rod Lincoln." No one messed with them, they were quite well received.

It was twelve years ago, because my spouse was pregnant with my now 12 year old daughter. About six to seven months along, I think. My daughter has a great sense of music, and we always tease that Mary-Chapin did it for her.

43. The "V" Festival in Staffordshire, England last August.
We go every year and there are too many bands to list, but you can go here to see: http://www.vfestival.com/vfestival/pages/index.cfm

It's coming up again 20th/21st August, and I'm ready for it. This is exactly the size of festival I can still handle. The idea of Glastonbury's just too much for me nowadays (but I love watching the 3 days of coverage on the BBC - hey, would that count as attending if next year I take a TV outside, put up a small tent, turn on the garden hose and roll around in mud while watching the bands?).

65. Yes, it was a fine time - the Pixies were fabulous!
I love Frank Black.

Are you going this year? We got our tickets early because of being repeat customers.

I know some people talk shite about the V Festival (and why is that, is it because it has sponsors?), but in my opinion it's just going from strength to strength. I'm happy to take my son with me (he was 14 last week and this will be his 4th festival), but I won't take him to Glastonbury because it's just too damn big as far as I'm concerned - like I said, it makes me uncomfortable. I figure my boy can go to Glastonbury with his mates when he's older.

77. Totally agree
Sadly it's trendy for people who care more about their hipster reputation than about music to slate V- because of the sponsorship thing as you mentioned, and also I think precisely because it is the kind of place people can feel totally comfortable taking their families.

That's just stupid, though- both times I've been to V it's been awesome and had a great atmosphere, made better by the lack of pretentiousness. And no-one can argue with the quality of the music, the headliners over the last few years have been terrific, and last year especially there were some awesome lesser known bands on the smaller stages.

Unfortunately I can't make it this year- I would've LOVED to see Sonic Youth!- but I don't doubt it'll be fantastic again!

109. I especially love the smaller stages,
although I hate the JJB tent because it's hot and smelly and feels like I'm standing in a marsh. Shame, too, because there are some good acts in there every year that I miss out on because I can't stand being in that enclosed area.

Hmmm, methinks I might have a teensy problem with claustrophobia...

I usually prefer the NME stage. Last year, I especially liked the Kings of Leon, the Zutons, and the Scissor Sisters there. The Scissor Sisters are headlining this year (but you probably already knew that) and I feel they're better suited to the smaller stage than the main stage, but maybe that's just me.

110. the NME stage is great
Last year other than the Pixies my two highlights were Goldie Looking Chain (juvenile, I know, but they crack me up) and - and I know I'm waving goodbye to any musical credibility here - the Fountains of Wayne, both on the NME stage. I see what you mean about the Scissor Sisters, their act probably is better suited to the smaller stage, but I think last year the organisers badly underestimated how quickly their popularity would grow- i could barely get close enough to hear them!

Edited on Thu Jul-21-05 03:17 PM by patcox2
Sid was a groupie who was added to the band just before the end; he could not play at all and the others hated him, though Rotten seemed to take pity and tried to protect him (according to Rotten).

Though some think the Pistols were a publicity stunt manufactured by Malcolm Mclaren, they apparently did not think so and resented his interference, and apparently putting Sid in the band was one of these things.

Not one guitar solo in their entire body of work, do you know how revolutionary that was in 1976? You really notice it when you see them.

So, anyway, keep giggling about how little I know about the Pistols.

them six times in concert. They were pure energy. Joe never gave less than 100% for the fans. That leg of his moved like a jack-hammer for the entire concert and, at the end of every show, you could see he was physically exhausted. I'm sorry that you didn't get to see them in concert.

This is the second year in a row he has had it @ Billy Bob's Texas..there is a big piece of land called the north forty and it has been fixed up as a concert venue..bring your favorite comfy lawn chair and settle in for the day.

It started at 11 am and probably wound down about 2 am. I did not stay for the whole thing but I did stay for Bob Dylan. It was hot, but it was fun.

I think that was it.

My last "arena" show was Lolapalooza 1... what was that, like 1989? 1990?

134. R.E.M.
The "Green" tour. Twas then I discovered I was too old to go to concerts anymore. Paid top dollar for good tickets. And all I could see was the ass of the snot-nose stoner dumbf*uck sitting ahead of me who insisted on jumping up and shaking his boo-tay. Super-sized, I may add, from years of couch-potatoery.

I asked him to sit down. He said, "Why don't you stand up yourself?" I replied, "That's the point. I don't want to block the people sitting behind ME." Words were exchanged, and I realized I'd rather spend my money to be around polite people, thankyouverymuch.

Love the trees leading up to the place. Very different from the midwest from which I came.

The Moody Blues have just finished recording a DVD there too.

166. The Wallflowers and Counting Crows at Chaistain (in Atlanta)
Great tho pricey--- in the late 70's I saw Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers,The Kinks, and Blondie at the Fox Theater in Atlanta for $12.00. Also saw the Sex Pistols at a small venue in Atlanta($4.00).Was offered $80.00 for my ticket but turned it down. afterward I figured I screwed myself, as they SUCKED live. thanks for the memories---------------------
Todays prices are WAY OUT OF LINE--- on one is worth the money they demand from their fans.
