Philly DUers: Heat Advisory for Tuesday
...A HEAT ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR URBANIZED AREAS ON TUESDAY...

HOT AND MORE HUMID WEATHER IS EXPECTED ON TUESDAY WELL AHEAD OF A
STRONG COLD FRONT. THE FORECAST FOR TUESDAY CALLS FOR AFTERNOON
TEMPERATURES TO RISE INTO THE MIDDLE 90S. THIS WILL PUSH HEAT INDEX
VALUES TO OR A LITTLE ABOVE 100 DEGREES. AS A RESULT, THE NATIONAL
WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED AN EXCESSIVE HEAT ADVISORY FOR TUESDAY.

THE ADVISORY INCLUDES HIGHLY URBANIZED AREAS IN THE FOLLOWING
COUNTIES.

IN PENNSYLVANIA...BUCKS...MONTGOMERY...CHESTER...DELAWARE AND
PHILADELPHIA.

IN NEW JERSEY...MERCER...WESTERN BURLINGTON...CAMDEN AND GLOUCESTER.

IN DELAWARE...NEW CASTLE.

A COLD FRONT MOVING THROUGH WEDNESDAY MAY KEEP THE REGION A BIT
COOLER THAN TUESDAY...HOWEVER IF THE FRONT IS A BIT SLOWER...THEN
EXCESSIVE HEAT IS POSSIBLE WEDNESDAY AS WELL. SOMEWHAT COOLER AIR IS
THEN FORECAST TO FOLLOW THE COLD FRONT FOR THURSDAY WITH DAYTIME
HIGHS IN THE 80S.

LIMIT OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES ON TUESDAY, IF POSSIBLE, ESPECIALLY DURING
THE HEAT OF THE AFTERNOON.

BE SURE TO CHECK ON THE ELDERLY, AS THEY ARE MOST SUSCEPTIBLE TO
HEAT RELATED HEALTH PROBLEMS. DO NOT LEAVE CHILDREN IN AN UNATTENDED
VEHICLE FOR ANY LENGTH OF TIME. THE TEMPERATURE INSIDE A PARKED
VEHICLE WILL RISE QUICKLY DURING HOT WEATHER. ALSO MAKE SURE PETS
HAVE PLENTY OF WATER AND DO NOT LEAVE THEM OUTDOORS FOR A LONG
PERIOD OF TIME.

Look out, Philly DUers...I'll be staying indoors tomorrow.

1. Heat Help from a Florida Native
Take a couple of liter plastic water bottles, fill them half full of water and place them in the freezer overnight. When the temps get blistering tomorrow, pull one out, fill it with water and drink. Add water as needed, the water frozen in the bottle will help keep the water cold for up to about 2 hours before melting completely.

Minimize outdoor time during the heat of the day. If you have anything to do outside, do it early in the morning or late in the day.
