16. I listed the top 5 consistant
male box office draws for the 40's. A longer list would have included Clark Gable and others. Of the top five I went with Cary Grant, but I also loved the "Thin Man" movies with William Powell.

36. Of course you are correct about those being two
of his best films, but it wasn't until he filled out physically and emotionally that he really came in to his own, at least in My humble opinion......

6. I always liked Robert Mitchum although he probably was more well
known for his "film noir" movies in the 50's and the Philip Marlowe movies in the 70's. He just seemed to get better and better with age. Probably my favorite-Cape Fear.

13. Too bad Cagney's films didn't hold up so well...
No one likes prohibition-era gangster stories these days. His stuff seems so dated, but he was fine actor. It's all secret agents, international thieves and friendly murderers that Bogart and Grant had to deal with.

31. Too many to choose: Orson Welles, Sir Lawrence Olivier, Errol Flynn
the GREAT Bogart, George Raft, Claude Raines, Clark Gable, Edward G. Robinson, Paul Muni, and I'm sure I'm missing quite a few. I also have to give a nod to the actor Orson Welles called the very greatest in cinematic history and with which I largely agree: the French actor Raimu. Raimu's films are like nothing else due to the natural power of his portrayals.

Jimmy Stewart one of my all time favorite actors from any era. Ironically, we now find ourselves living in Potterville.
