Recent Update on my condition

I have been mainly lurking the past couple of weeks.

For those who don't know:

I have a brain tumour, I had surgery that removed 29 - 30 % of it, it was diagnosed as a anaplastic astrocytoma grade 3. I am currently undergoing radiation therapy.

I am just about half-way through my treatments with just under 20 more to go. I had my chemo consult today and they are going to wait and see how it responds to the radiation therapy.

Thank you for the best wishes. I continue to improve each day. My symptoms are from my surgery. (The second brain surgery I had in 5 months.. my first was for a VP shunt for Hydro I developed late last year)

34. Are you aware of the American Brain Tumor Association?

First of all, let me wish you best of luck with your chemo and radiation. As you likely know, it's going to be an unpleasant experience at times (perhaps most of the time) but when it gets really bad, just visualize that as sick as you are, the chemo drugs are KILLING the cancer cells.

My niece had an astrocytoma and we were put in touch with the American Brain Tumor Association (see link below). You may very well already know about them. They gave us a lot of support, information and resources as we fought her tumor.

Where is yours located? It sounds like it's in a very sensitive area given the percentage they were able to excise?

I'm sure you have a good support network, but I have been down this road with my niece, so if you want to communicate with someone who understands what you're going through, feel free to PM me. I'm actually back in school to become a Physician Assistant with the goal to specialize in neurology, as I was very inspired by the medial professionals who treated my niece. I'll also check out your blog.

Have you consulted an attorney in your area to determine whether there is any relationship to your line of work...I remember you showing us all what you did back when old DU was up but I don't want to post it here in case you no longer post about your line of work.

I do not think it caused the cacner. The amount of radiation that I am exposed to is very small. I get more in one treatment than my whole time there. Though the thought has crossed my mind. There is a contraversy over small exposure to radiation. We know the effects of larger doese but not smaller doese.

Though when I return to work I do not plan on doing any radiation surverys for quite awhile. (
