1st Candidate on NH Ballot Has Motto: "In God We Trust"
:eyes:

<snip>

CONCORD, N.H. -- A Republican whose campaign motto is "In God We Trust," was the first official candidate to sign up for New Hampshire's presidential primary ballot on Monday morning.

Robert Haines of Manchester was wearing his signature cowboy hat when he signed the ballot form and paid his $1,000 filing fee -- in cash -- at the Secretary of State's office.

Placing a small wooden cross on the desk, he took issue with the words of New Hampshire statesman Daniel Webster, who said, "There is nothing so powerful as the truth."

"There is nothing so powerful as God, the most high almighty," Haines said. "New Hampshire has a tendency to place men and their words at a very high level. I place God and his word first."
