Local charities turned away from Live 8
Meanwhile, local charities were told they weren’t invited to appeal for donations at the Park Place concert.

Organizers said it would take away from the main reason for the event – to raise awareness of African famine and coax world leaders to boost foreign aid and eliminate Africa’s debt.

The decision to ban the local charities reportedly came from Geldof himself, and didn’t go over well with people who work with the homeless.

Paula King of the Elizabeth Fry Society said the July 2nd show would be the ideal time and spot to raise awareness about poverty a little closer to home.

The last time I went to the grocery store I saw a donation bin for a food bank. It took away from the main reason I went to the store - to buy food for dinner. So we went without dinner that night. Great decision, Mr. Geldof. :applause:
