Mormons....
I just had two very nice young men come visit for two hours....

I'm a Wiccan, and a homosexual, a feminist, and a sadomasochist - all of which I was very clear about. They were brutally honest about their beliefs and very charming. I actually really enjoyed our discussion.

Just wondering about other people's experiences.....

Khash.

1. my inlaws are mormons
I am a jewish pagan, married to their son for 10 years. He hasn't been mormon for at least that long.

We have fascinating discussions.

The ones who go door to door are usually eager to engage in conversation, even if it doesn't turn out how they planned.

4. Jimmy!
If I wasn't gay, I'd love you much more directly (no, you perves, it's not what it sounds like - I just mean I'd send her flowers and ask her out to dinner and do nice things for her and pay the babysitter and take my pants off at the first available opportunity. So get your minds out of the gutter!)

I was watching Law and Order and somebody said to somebody else: You have a strange fascination for The Clash. My first thought: tell Jimmy about it. My second thought: If it wasn't fiction, set her up with this guy!

So I think of you when you aren't even there :)

the discussion board and the stories page tell you everything you ever wanted to know about mormons but can't ask them yourself.

5. In college there was a knock at the door
My roommate answered. He shouted at me, "Did you know Jackson wants to be a Mormon?"

"No. Does he?"

"These two guys say he called in."

After a short, polite conversation explaining that the third roommate was at work, the Mormons left. Later that night, Jackson came home, and we asked him about it.

"I saw a TV commercial. I just wanted the free book."

6. I live in an area with a very large LDS population.
I have never, however, been visited by elders in the nearly five years we've lived here.

I have a few acquaintances who are LDS, though most of my friends are not. There is a tendency among wards to socialize mostly with each other, the idea being they built a community both inside and outside of their church.

7. I just posted the other day that we had a nice visit
They were adorable and charming. They said they'd be in the neighborhood periodically for a while if I needed anything, and would check up on me. :D

10. Mine won't come back....
I'm a sort of an at-home-alone nudist so when they knocked I grabbed what was closest to put on. I weigh 160, I used to weigh 240. I shook their hands, thanked them for speaking to me and then my pants fell off. I had put on my fat pants not my skinny pants.... Oops. :)

13. Yeah it was funny!
There they are in shirts and ties and there I am being all polite with my pants around my ankles!

I was kind of torn betwen saying "Excuse me, PLEASE" or "Which of you boys wants to go for it?" But being a gentleman I said " Excuse me, I'm so sorry!"

But I just thought some of you would get a kick out of that story :) That you did progmama makes my day! Seeing you laugh is great even when I'm the butt of the joke!

9. You're all of those things, you live in Houston, and you're still alive?
The place must have changed since I lived there. (For the better, I mean.)

Of course, it was the better part of (good Lord!) thirty years ago that I was there.

12. Barely alive
By the skin of my teeth. I used to live in the Castro District of San Francisco where I was boringly ordinary. I didn't realize I was evil and oughta be shot til I moved here....

Tori Amos: I have to go to Texas, I said I have to go to Texas and I have to give away my blue blue dress.

Yeah well so did I. I'm not very girly but I had a blue velvet dress... and leather chaps and engineer boots and many other things.

I'm beginning to think it was a bad trade.....

15. OK, I'll say it...
Joseph Smith is an ancestor of mine through my maternal grandmother, but none of her family were Mormon, neither am I. I am a bisexual Jewish Episcopalian, but on a personal basis, I ever never had a bad spot with the Mormons. Our cat sitter is of the Latter Days Saints and is a great woman.

16. Really?
You're related to Joseph Smith?

(and forgive my odd humor here) Have you had a close encounter with the angel Moroni?

17. Yes, it is true that I am related to Joseph Smith.
Edited on Wed Jun-29-05 09:33 PM by elshiva
Seriously, I swear to God and everything. My grandmother's maiden name is Mack and Smith's mother's name was Mack, too. It is the same family.

I have never seen Moroni, but I do not think Mormonism is less of a religion than Christianity.

AGAIN: I am NOT a Mormon, just for religious freedom.
