*growl grumble grouse grrrr*
Last fall, I stopped a guy from beating the crap out of his girlfriend on the street over in Central Square. Cops got involved, I gave a statement, and the lady avoided a beating in the street. Turns out the boyfriend got arrested and charged, and I got tapped as a witness. The trial came up today.

I woke up this morning sick as a dog, and had to race over to the Middlesex courthouse to sign in by 8:45am. Conferenced for 31 seconds with the ADA prosecuting the case, and was led into this narrow, stuffy, dim, sweltering waiting room. One hour...two hours...became four hours...and then someone comes along and says, "Oh, yeah, you. Your guy pled out a couple of hours ago, so you can leave."

I went to the parking garage and couldn't find my car. Looked for it for an hour to no avail. Went down and told the attendant, who went looking for it for another half-hour without finding it. Finally the two of us go up and look for it together, and we found it in three minutes. Argh.

Drove home through the insane daytime traffic - delivery trucks, cabs and lost tourists - to find no parking spots. Finally parked the car, went into my building, opened my mailbox...and there's an envelope from my ex-girlfriend. The letter reads, in short, that she thinks it best if we no longer have contact or see each other socially anymore. This was weird, to say the least, because we haven't had contact or seen each other socially since the beginning of March. But whatever, one last kick in the balls during a long, annoying day feels like par for the course.

I'm waiting for a meteor to crash through my roof or something.

Yeesh.

hang in there. I've been through a stretch of biblically proportioned bad luck for the last 6 months. Things will improve.

Get rest, drink lots of water and feel better is the first priority.

9. You actually DRIVE your car?
It's no fun being sick and to have to drag your butt down to the courthouse for no good reason must really suck.

You get one of these  for being a good Samaritan though.

If the meteor is little, you might be OK. Those brick buildings are sturdy. If not, can I have your cat?

10. Eh...I'm an old pro at being a witness. It's a lot of 'hurry up & wait'.
Sounds like the ex is setting you up for something, like establishing a written record. Strange.

you should have said the same to her a while ago. That letter's the nicest thing she's done for you in a long time. Capain America thinks he's lucky now, but give it time.
Wipe that shit off your shoe and feel good you did the right thing. From what I can see, your week got off to a good start, two annoying commitments over and done with.
okay that was harsh, so i'm adding a hug.
but you do know i'm right, don't you?

16. Let's look for the bright side...
That was cool - you stopped a guy from beating the crap out of his girlfriend and it's possible that because of you there was a conviction. If you hadn't have shown up - the DA may not have had enough evidence to work with. Yea. Captain Pitt to the rescue.

(Of course it would have been nice to have not been stuck there and have car nonsense and all).

Too bad about the ex-gf. Sounds like issues - probably just as well.

Hope something good happens. Karma says something will.

19. Sorry, dude.
Sometimes that stuff is for the best. Sometimes it's harder to grieve a loss and move forward when you do see someone (well, unless your ex grumbles at you and calls you names). I hope things work out for you with your life.

You missed all of Matcom's various weiner-like things Saturday too. Well, we all missed you anyway. :D

22. It's the Central Square Curse.
You can't walk through Central Sqaure without:

1. Getting second-hand lung cancer

2. Stepping in to prevent an assault

3. Give away all your change

4. Get nearly hit by a car crossing the street

5. End of stoned, drunk, or placing bets

Next time, walk through Harvard Square where you can help a rich street kid.

Thank you for all that you did for this woman. There's no telling what kind of hell she's in right now, so let this former abuse victim tell you...THANK YOU for doing what was right.
