Wildlife Rescue help/advice needed right away.
Edited on Sun Jun-26-05 07:51 PM by Dover
My dog just came home with a very new fawn in his mouth, and it was bellowing its disapproval. It wasn't able to stand and I don't know if that's normal for a such a young fawn or not. If not I'll just leave it in the tall grass for awhile (the sun is now setting) and see if it's mother comes.

If it should be able to stand then it must be injured, in which case it should either handed over to a wildlife rescue group or put to sleep.

Does anyone have any experience that could share some advice?

Thanks

2. no clue
I'd xpost to pets and veg/animal rights since rescue folks can be found in both and call the local zoo, since they usually have contacts for any local rescues/rehabilitators.

3. Nature Center
There are usually nature centers that will take injured wild animals. Here in Oklahoma the closest one is about an hour away.

4. Your local Humane Society/SPCA or Animal Control
should have the contacts to point you in the right direction.

5. Where are you located?
I'm sure there must be a wildlife rescue around there.

visited as other forums.......hence the post here.

I know of a wildlife rescue place to take it, but wanted to give the mother a chance to reclaim it if it's not injured. I just don't know what's normal for fawns...whether the fact that it's not standing means its injured or whether that's normal.

Guess I'll google.

Thanks for replying!

8. Normal for them to "collapse" when they are scared. They lie down
and freeze until the danger goes away. Keep doggy inside and stay downwind and see if mom shows up.

7. Hmm it came with your dog? Well it is possible that mama followed
behind.

New fawns are very wobbly. The newer they are the wobblier they are.

Do a quick google about white tail deer and see what it says about "abandoned" babies.
