JimmyJazz and I will have JohnKleeb on 9/24 - what should we do with him
Edited on Thu Jun-23-05 12:19 PM by LynneSin
He'll be hanging with us at the Sept 24th protest in Washington DC. Any suggestions on what to do with young Kleeb that day?

EDIT Note: You can join in the fun by joining us in DC for the big Sept 24th protest: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=148x619

5. I agree with the yard work idea.
He should also do your cooking, make you drinks, and give you foot rubs.

And clean the house.

And I'm sure there's some painting and maintenance that you've been wanting to get done.

Someone did good by you. I just get to feeling old sometimes when I talk to people younger than me and they have no idea what I am talking about when I mention some pop culture references that I take for granted. I had to introduce my cousins son to of all things "The Princess Bride." None of his friend or him had ever seen it or heard of it. How can you go through life without seeing and loving "The Princess Bride?"

50. for the Rolling Stones
their 60s releases are the only ones that I like (The Brian Jones era Rolling Stones). Get Hot Rocks 1964-1971 for a good starter on the Stones. The first disc, "Time Is On My Side" through "Lets Spend the Night Together" is the best stuff
but on the second disc there is also Jumpin' Jack Flash and Sympathy for the Devil, two kick ass songs

But the Blues, classic R and B and soul is my favorite stuff of all. You need some Muddy Waters, some Robert Johnson, some Otis redding, some Wilson Pickett, some Magic Sam I could go on and on

Then we have got to work on his classic jazz knowledge. I mean where would he be without Django Reinhardt, Miles Davis, etc. Also I have to insist on him being educated in some Bruce Springsteen seeing as I am from Freehold just like him and Bruce is a true man of the people.

55. The Stones did not "steal" Howlin' Wolf's music technically
they did covers and paid royalties. They even got Wolf his first national television appearance, on Shindig! in 1965 where he played "How Many more Times".

The only Wolf song that I can think of that the Stones covered is "Little Red Rooster". Brian Jones was the first Brit and possibly the first white guitarist to play bottleneck slide on record. he really played some good slide on their cover of "Rooster"

But if you sit and listen closely to the early Stones and Howling Wolf you will hear a lot of sometimes faint echoes in the stones music.

58. no doubt
Jimmy Reed and Chuck Berry as well. Keith was a huge Chuck berry fan, and to this day does some of the best Chuck berry type solos of anyone.

I have alot of early stones stuff. It is funny, but the Stones were originally a Blues revival band, and Brian Jones was the band leader. Later Brian was the outcast of the band and one of the 60s first drug casualties, having been beaten down by Mick, keith and Andrew Loog Oldham the manager.

and if they get famous enough and last long enough you forget their roots. I mean "Bob Marley and the Wailers" started out as a skaa band. How weird can that be.

62. actually, they were just "The Wailers" then
it didn't become Bob marley and the Wailers until 1975 when Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer quit the band. The first "Bob Marley and the Wailers" album is "Natty Dread". "Catch a Fire" and "Burnin" were originally recorded and released by the Wailers, but now often you will find pre-1975 releases listed as Bob Marley and the wailers.

My b-day is the day before. So, you folks enjoy one for my b-day. Just think of me while sipping! (Yeah, i know Kleeb will have to drink a softer beverage. That's his fault for being born so late.)

Have fun.

102. You both HAVE to come
I have the hotel but I'm thinking of switching to a more artsy type hotel in a better local and price!!

Plus if you want to stay a few extra days, we'll drag you up to Philly for the local folk dancing!!

105. We'd probably fly on Thursday and back on Monday.
But definitely let us know about the hotel... I'm going to start looking at flights. We're thinking of flying to Philly if there's a direct flight there and then just driving down to DC.
