Can someone please properly define the expression "vested interests"?

It's something I think is often abused and used incorrectly, in the same way "penultimate" is.

I think I heard someone use it incorrectly today, bus as I'm not 100% sure of it, myself, I was too chicken to call them on it. Sorry if that's flaky of me.

"Vested interests" means that the republicans won't do anything unless it is in the interest of vested guys like him.

2. "Vested interest" defined:

"A present right or title to a thing, which carries with it an existing right of alienation, even though the right to possession or enjoyment may be postponed in some uncertain time in the future." 120 S.W. 778, 781.

"Interest" defined: The legal concern of a person in real property, or in the right to some of the benefits or uses from which the property is inseparable.
