I remember when a 20 foot cord on your phone
Edited on Sat Jun-18-05 05:20 PM by trof
was THE ultimate in telecommunications.
Wow!
You could walk all over the living room and even INTO THE KITCHEN, talking on your phone all the time.
It looked SO cool.

You could LOSE the damn thing.
Phone starts ringing and you can't find it so you start at the wall plug and keep following that cord till...THERE THAT SUCKAH IS!

Them wuz the days.

1. I got an extension
line for the phone cord so I could take the phone into the hall closet with me so my brothers and sister couldn't listen to the conversation.....now that was cool.....

2. Had a long cord on my bedroom phone so I could make calls from the
tub! From the tub where I had bubbles and my rbber duckie, and usually a bottle of wine and a glass!

3. Glasses in the bathroom are dangerous.

You should just drink straight out of the bottle.

8. tried that but the duck had a problem with it
He got drunk one day and tried to sell me insurance.

And I had to wear my glasses in the bathroom so I could see the phone book.

5. Miz t. doesn't hang up the kitchen cordless.
It's wherever she quit talking.
So it doesn't recharge.
A minor annoyance, but an annoyance, nevertheless.

6. Yep. I've got a dead cordless phone
settin' right beside me. At least I know where it is today. I'm always losing the damn thing.

7. And now, many folks are opting to not have a "land line" in favor
of just using a cell phone.

Remember when each minute on a cell cost you? Roaming? Don't get me started...

9. I've thought about that.
Cost is still a factor.

12. I do that.
Of course, I don't use the phone much anyway, so there's not much to think about there. The only reason I need a phone line at all is for internet access, and even then it's DSL.

10. I Thought The ULTIMATE Cool Was My Mom's Kitchen Phone With A...
... a retractable auto-rewinding cord. When the handset was hooked on the wall, it looked like it only had a 4" cord... but when you picked up the phone, more and more cord would unwind from the little hole (about 10 feet, I recall).

The phone was part of a complete wall unit that also had an AM-FM radio tuner and intercom system. (So, if the front doorbell rang... instead of walking 10 feet directly to the front door to see who it was, you could walk 15 feet into the kitchen to talk to them via the intercom. Cool, eh?)

14. One thing that I never understood, is how come they always looked more
"stretched out" than many shorter cords. You'd thing that there would be lots of slack. I guess it was just a matter of people trying to go 25 feet with a 20 foot cord.

15. I remember when the phone company....
actually sent someone out to un-wind the damn kink out of ours! LOL, my mom really made that call when the cord could only be stretched six of eight feet, or so - it was that kinky!!! I mean, you'd think we could have just un-wound it ourselves, but it was so kinky it was in a tight knot. I watched the service dude struggle with it for a long time before he had a brainstorm and decided to disconnected the cord from the telephone to finish the operation (hey, no quick disconnects back in those days). Yep, them wuz the days when service was service.
