Ever log onto DU and wonder who these people are and where they came from?

More and more I'm feeling disconnected with the community by the crazy rantings posted here. Anyone else feeling that way (without naming names, of course.)

I just think "who are these new folks with rants?" - or... we have always had ranters - just new names doing the ranting. I attribute it to a much larger community - and the much more limited posting time I have these days, thus I haven't come to recognize (yet?) the ranters.

14. I love a good rant

I've even been known to construct a few myself. I just prefer to stick with the reality-based community myself.

On a personal note, things are still up in the air. I go to U of C Hospital Monday, so hopefully, I'll know more and be able to come up with a strategy. Jason is really helping me pull through, though. Don't know what I would do without him. You should come visit this summer.

17. Chalk it up, for me, as missing a lot

these days (last eight months or so)... and my reading being limited to thread titles of interest in LBN, Editorials, greatest - and much briefer forays into the GDs, and even briefer into other forums - except, when I can, the lounge. Guessing that I have missed much of what to which you refer.

A quiet thoughtful thread that a lot of people agree with won't stay up top for very long, while a weird thread with two sides giving no ground in an argument that goes nowhere in 200 posts will stay on top of the page. I think the "Greatest" system helps this a bit, but there probably isn't any cure for it. Unless Skinner lets me begin a pogrom of loonies, which I don't expect to happen anytime soon. :D
