I got a letter from some agency that says they find unclaimed funds from insurance, etc. They charged a 10% fee to arrange for you to get it though. . . but, they made the mistake of listing the agency that the funds were generated by.

So, I did a quick Google search and found that I can file the claim myself with the California State Controller. . .

So, I send off the form tomorrow to Cali. don't pay the fee to this agency, and I get $328 .

Yay me.

Only problem is it takes 90 days or so.

1. Super!
I was doing a search a few years ago on lost money, and was looking up under my name (nothing), hubby's name (nothing) and finally my mom's name. She had about $600 coming to her from her bio-father's life insurance policy. However, the address they had for her was where she lived when she was in 2nd and 3rd grade (she was about 45 at the time I found the $$ for her). In order to get the $$, she has to prove that she lived there during that time.

Well, she can't claim that she lived there (who could after all this time?), but she could claim her name, dob, social security # and proof that the man who had the life insurance policy was her father (he's listed on the birth cert). Also, her name is very unique and I doubt there's another person with her name AND dob AND SS# on the planet.

But, she can't get any of it unless she can rouse the spirits of her mom's long-dead landlords and have them provide records from 38 years ago stating that she and my mom lived in this shitty trailer for 2 years....

real crappy for her, but super great for you!
