17. I must have seen you there then!

21. I think I saw you too, but you were a double image.....
...with a green and red pattern running in the diagonal.

I remember dancing too.

2. I've walked through the halls of Karma
I shook hands with both the Devil and God
They turned my eyes to the inside to see
Where my energies have gone.

3. I saw them in concert in 1977
at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. They put on a very good show. Jim Dandy was one nasty performer.

Hot and Nasty
When Electricity came to Arkansas
Happy Hooker
Unlce Lijah
Hot Rod (Jim Dandy was downright pornographic during this song with his tight spandex britches and his suggestive movements.)

I think they were pretty good for being the worst!!

5. That was the "Ozark Mountain Daredevils"
Black Oak Arkansas' 'hit' was "Jim DAndy" (used to great effect in the movie "Dazed & Confused")

22. Marshall Tucker Band (and other 3 worded band names)
Allman Brothers Band
Atlanta Rhythm Section

non-southern bands: Grand Funk Railroad
Blue Oyster Cult (more cowbells!)
Emerson Lake & Palmer
Chicago Transit Authority (then shortened to Chicago)

I vaguely remember Black Oak Arkansas.

6. I had a girlfriend who claimed that was her aunt singing backup
in "Jim Dandy".

Singing, or hog-calling, whatever: "Go Jim Dandy, GOOOOOOOOOOO!"

Yeah, she was kind of a nut.

8. Ruby Starr was her aunt?
Edited on Thu Jun-16-05 02:45 PM by BiggJawn
That was back during Ruby's high-kicks-and-oh-I-forgot-my-panties phase...

Ruby's gone now, Cancer got her....

11. She never mentioned her aunt by name, ever...
Edited on Thu Jun-16-05 02:51 PM by Hobarticus
Nor did she offer any proof. It was an off-hand comment she made once, and that was the end of it.

I never gave it much credence, being that she was kooky to begin with. I just thought it was funny.

9. Oh my god my mom LOVED them
There's a picture of me, as a wee babe, late 70's, wearing an oversized Black Oak Arkansas T-shirt.

Back in those days, you could take cameras to concerts. My mom has about a billion pictures of Jim Dandy, from the front row, potato in pants and all.

My mom wasn't a groupie, but knew alot of bands and partied with them (Black Oak, Allman Bros, Alice Cooper, etc)

You know that song "What's Your Name, Little Girl?"? well that song was written about my mom (seriously).

12. Worst? I don't think so, my friend.
BOA was a pretty damn good band, as I recall. They had a sense of humor and didn't take themselves too seriously. They were a lot of fun.

20. I agree with you...
someone who nightly smashed his washboard in a Pete Townshend-like frenzy obviously had a sense of humor and an appreciation for the absurd. They were fun.

23. They gave over half a million dollars back to their community
during their career, supporting food banks, after-school programs etc. Half a mil was some pretty good money back then.
