Jack Nicholson as the Joker: Greatest character ever.

4. I've always been a big Batman film...
... but never really liked any of the films, even Tim Burton's original flicks. I've been following this film pretty closely (was supposed to see it today but that's another story)... and from what I've seen (and heard) this seems to be the first Batman film to ever get it right -- not counting the Animated Series of course.

5. Richard Donner's "Superman" has just been dethroned
Perfect. Just bloody perfect. And Scarecrow's "It's-the-Batman," sent chills down my spine.

Needless to say, my anticipation for the Clown Prince is damn near unbridled.

7. Neeson's character was the most pleasant surprise of all (SPOILER)
Edited on Thu Jun-16-05 01:01 AM by DerekG
Quite congruent to Qui-Gon Jinn of "The Phantom Menace", only far more multi-faceted; it is rare that the villain of a summer blockbuster acts out of ideological purity, and not vainglory.

On edit: Said character also has the best death scene I've seen in a comic adaptation.

10. Agreed (more spoilage)
That entire secret society angle was very cool.

It was a very well put togther picture. Completely surpassed my expectations and that rarely happens to me at the movies.

11. In the comics
it's the league of assassins, which is even cooler

14. I wondered how it fit within the comics
I've never really read much Batman other than a few graphic novels.

15. The movie
heavily borrows from the comics, which is good.

The mood is very inspired by The Long Halloween and Dark Victory, both by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale, and which take place in the Batman universe that was reinvented by Frank Miller in Batman: Year One, which is also a major inspiration for the movie.

16. I think I read Year One a while back
But I don't recall much about it. I'll have to go back and read the ones you referenced.

19. Scarecrow was good. Totally makes you forget Batman & Robin
and since it will probably rack up lots of $- lots of room for another Bale (IMHO: THE BATMAN) movie.

SPOILER ALERT

my only complaint is that Batman lets Ra's Al Ghul die--he would never do that

12. Probably not, but...
Wasn't it worth it just to hear the last words Batman utters to him?

13. Yeah, it was cool
and of course, he can come back if Nolan wants, since he's Ra's Al Ghul, after all, and has Lazarus Pits
