Do you drink buttermilk?
Edited on Wed Jun-15-05 11:44 PM by Old_Fart
One of my pals drinks buttermilk because he says that it cures hangovers. The smell of it made me sick and I can't figure out what it is and why would someone want to drink it?

1. I thought my grandpa bought the last container?
I don't think I've seen one in the store since. Or I blocked it out.

3. No way. I remember my grampa loved it, though.
It's a great ingredient for cookies, pancakes, cakes and such, but to drink? Not me.

5. The worst thing about buttermilk
is not the taste. It's the way the glass looks when you're thru!

12. It's chock full of good bacteria
But I don't think the modern stuff (cultured milk) is really meant to be drank. I love it in waffles and pancakes though.

14. Buttermilk?
Is that still around? We used to make it in Home Ec classes (60s). When it's fresh, it's not bad.

Now, eggnog! That's another story. I usually buy several litres at Christmas time and throw them in the freezer so I can enjoy the nutmeggy goodness all year long. 'course the rum doesn't hurt either.

22. I think it's a generational thing
My maternal grandmother (born 1899) and my father (born 1911) both loved buttermilk and happily downed glasses of it.

Neither I nor my siblings can stand the stuff.

Tall refreshing cool glass of buttermilk instead
of ice cream or yogurt.

He loved it. He also ate raw oysters--not in the shell fresh but in plastic containers from the A&P.

My dad use to buy coffee for his percolator from the A & P. The aroma of coffee being made in the percolator has stayed with me for life.

30. In a few bollywood movies I've seen, some Indians drink it....
It seemed completely normal, they asked someone if they wanted buttermilk...and the person offered it didn't freak out or go "EWWWW"...so maybe in some other cultures people drink it?

Or, my translations could have been bad.
