4. Good show but boy, the deja vu
It wasn't so many years ago when we were rolling coins the day before payday in order to buy milk. I really felt for them and vividly remember those days myself. Doin' ok now but some things you don't forget.

7. I live in Columbus. That was quite accurate
A great many people here live like that their whole lives. Most of the 90's I was only making $300/wk and living in San Francisco. The rent and food costs were so much I almost never went out. I shared a 1 bedroom apt downtown with a roommate so I slept in the living room. We had no stove just a hot plate. The apt had no heat of any kind. When I ran out of money food not bombs would feed me.

The show demonstrated well where the problems are. The health care in this country is total bullshit. When I was poor I simply never went to the hospital or bough medicine. Many of the poor just go without and endure the pain. many however have serious illness and can't ignore it and the health care system exploits them for it. You'll notice it was the good liberal people in the free clinics, community thrift stores & the REAL Christians that took care of them. Columbus is a very blue city and takes care of people. As Alex said she's amazed at how good people are. But there the flip side of course. I've already seen the evil greedy pigs on other message boards saying the show's fake and people "choose" to be poor and "their" tax money shouldn't be wasted on them, and how businesses do them a big favor by paying minimum wage and don't offer benefits.
