How do you decide if something belongs in GD or GDP?
Does it depend on it's degree of politicalness, or is there some other consideration for you?

2. I'd say
if it's about 2008 speculation or 2006 campaigns or certain politicians in particular, I'd post it in GDP..and if it's a bit more general..issues and whatnot I'd post in GD, but there's no hard guideline..

GDP evolved out of GD '04, which in my mind was to keep the talk about the candidates away from the talk about the issues, so that's still how I kinda separate it out.

4. It's not a question for the Admins. It's a personal question.
I want to know how people make their own decision about such a thing. I'm thinking the Admins are as confused about the distinction between GD and GDP as I am.

5. frankly...
i try to avoid both at all costs cause i can't stand the hostility that comes from both forums. so if i want to discuss current events, i just do it in LBN.

6. Dude, then by all means stay out of Elections...
I like LBN for posting too. It's feels spacious, the comments are usually intelligent and informative. Not to many posts per thread. How about Editorials, they're great and it's like the "countryside" of DU, hardly anyone there.

Elections is a place for you to avoid. It's great and critical now but there are, ahem, "visitors" who are mucking about. Good work there but very, very hot.

Now, you've got me thinking. I'm going to buy some property in Editorials now that you've started a rush on LBN territory.

:hi:

7. I don't start many threads,
but I tend to be selective about where I place them, often posting in the more specific forums.

Reading the thread titles that open in GD and GDP, there doesn't seem to be a clean break between the two. However, by forum name alone, the political stuff would seem to go best in GDP and other serious (non-lounge) subjects in GD (where a more specific forum shouldn't be used, if content is your major driver in making a selection).

But a major consideration is what sort (and how much) of a response you are looking for. Some specific forums can get less responses (many people seem to use the GD/GDP indexes as opposed to the main forum index), and GD has more posts than GDP. So GD might be the best place if you are looking for action, although it is also a place where your thread is more likely to get relegated quickly to a back page (where many people apparently never go).

I tend not to worry much about responses, so I feel free to use the more specific forums, based on what I see as the closest match to content.
