What is the most inexcusable love song of all time?
I'll have to go with "Love Hurts," the Nazareth version in particular.

14. LOL
Years ago I was in radio when that song was popular. The owner of the station I worked at was the father of six, and a born again Catholic. (I know that sounds like an oxymoron, but so was he -- without the oxy).

He loved that song. Everytime it aired he'd wax poetic about what a wonderful sentiment it expressed, and how there was nothing greater in life than getting married and having a family (everybody else was single). Finally one guy had had enough. He looked him in the eye after he spouted all the famiy value stuff, and said "Jim, you DO know they're not married, don't you?" Never heard another word about the song.

Aside from the lyrical content, it kicks ass. It's on Live From Planet Earth, which everyone should have in their collection.

20. the one Kmart is using to sell barbeque cookers

when the singer hits the high la la every head snaps toward the TV to see what the hell the sound is

way back when this love song was popular and played constantly, I hated it - all those high pitched la la las trailing down the scale.

21. Lonely Night by Captain and Tenille
Lonely Night, I cry myself to sleep
Tell me, what am I gonna do
'Cause it's always been you to dry my tears
It's always been you to wash away my fears
It's always been you each night and day
Now what can I say when love slips away?

Lonely night, I'm walking the floor
Tell me, what am I gonna do
Without your precious love, your tender touch
Hey, Little Girl, I miss you so much
Wish we could turn back the hands of time
To the day when you were mine

You used to call me Angel Face
Used to call me Angel Face
You used to help me through the night
Make me feel all right
Now all I have is teardrops through a lonely night

I can't get ya out of my mind
I can't get ya out of my mind
I can't get ya out of my mind
I can't get ya out of my mind

I promise you I'll change my ways
I promise you love's here to stay
Hey, Little Girl, depend on me
I'll be yours for eternity

28. Have you heard Gram Parsons/Emmylou Harris sing it?
Exceptional, yes. Inexcusable, no. Believe it was written by Felice & Boudleaux Bryant, who wrote a lot of the Everly Brothers best songs, as well as loads more.

The Nazareth version is pretty damn strident, I'll agree...

33. He Hit Me and it Felt Like A Kiss
Now THAT's Unexcusable.......

He hit me and it felt like a kiss
He hit me but it didn't hurt me
He couldn't stand to hear me say
That I'd been with someone new
And when I told him I had been untrue
He hit me and it felt like a kiss
He hit me and I knew he loved me
Cause if he didn't care for me
I could have never made him mad
He hit me and I was glad
Baby won't you stay...
He hit me and it felt like a kiss
He hit me and I knew I loved him
Cause when he took me in his arms
With all the tenderness there is
He hit me and he made me feel
Baby won't you stay...
