Paranormal Experience? True unexplained happenings? Haunting?
You're anonymous here, so I won't ever call you crazy, but I can't vouch for anyone else.

No Bigfoot, UFOs,
etc.,----Ghost/poltergeist accounts only, I'm researching to do amateur parapsychological investigation and write about it, since no such agency exists in my city(Boston).

I don't believe they exist myself, but the universe is an exceptionally strange place. I'm not sure I can conclusively rule them out. ;-)

8. Then it's fair to say they are "UNPROVEN"
Just like God. He's unproven. And, until proven with concrete evidence, (not just because it says so in some 2000 year old book)then I have to go on saying, he's unproven. Same goes for paranormal stuff. The burden of proof is on the person making the claim for existance or possible existance. Until I see the proof, I'm gonna have keep believing it's all in our heads, like so many things that can't be explained.

49. Please tell me how something that is
Beyond control, Unable to be replicated, completely unpredictable, can be proven using the scientific method?

Unexplained events believe to be ghosts have been captured on video, recorded with scientific instruments, photographed, and witnessed. Now please tell me what other forms of evidence you require and how one can acquire it?

I think you have to admit this to yourself friend, the evidence isn't lacking. The problem is people don't WANT to believe it.

6. I've seen a ghost.
Edited on Thu Oct-30-03 01:13 PM by rooboy
Not kidding. Happened about a year ago at the office where I was doing some work one night. Was sitting outside having a cigarette when a figure walked up the laneway next to where I was, and it passed no more than about 10 feet away from me. I jumped up and went to the laneway to try and see who it was, but there was nobody there.

When my colleague came back later on I explained what had happened, describing how the figure appeared next to the building next door. He knew all about the real estate in our street, and I was stunned when he informed me that the building next door used to be a morgue!

Freaked me out.

13. i have to get ready for work soon, hopefully I will have enough time to
explain how this happened

My daughter was reading a bunch of books about ghosts, and one was about ghosts in the pacific northwest. It talked about the haunting of a certain shop in the pike place market in Seattle. My daughter begged and asked and bothered me until I promised to take her down there. We live about an hour away in a small community near Mt Rainier, and as she had never been to the market itself, I though it would be good mom/daughter time to go.

The whole trip into Seattle was filled with unusual small coincidence, stuff like being late to the bus stop but the bus was late as well. A bunch of stuff that taken apart means nothing but added together is just a little weird.

Anyway, we got to the market and started looking for the shop and could not find it, so we picked a random shop to go in and ask, just on chance they might know. Again, as in my last paragraph, small coincidence this WAS the shop, it had changed owners and names a couple of years ago.

We were engaged in talking with the owner and she was telling us about the ghost who lives in the shop. Apparently it is a small boy thought to be the same age as my daughter. He is very mischievous and likes to move stuff around and throw the merchandise off of the shelves. My daughter (Olivia) was standing there listening in rapt attention.

Olivia was running her hands through her hair, absentmindedly while she was listening to the tales of the little boy ghost. Suddenly, the three of us all got chilled and we laughed and said, maybe our ghost is here right now.

At that moment, Olivia suddenly exclaimed "oh my gosh Mom, look at this" She was hold up a chunk of her hair that had just come out in her hand. It looked like someone had just snipped a big chunk out of her hair maybe 3 inches long by about 1 inch wide, with the top dead straight across, as if someome had just snuck up on her and cut it. We were so shocked, we could not speak, and finally VERY UNeasily laughed it off, just figuring that since Olivia had come all this way to see the boy, he wanted a souvenir of her.

We left her piece of hair with the shop owner who taped it to the wall of the shop.

IF I had not seen this, I would have never believed it. There is a little bit more, but I have to get ready for work, and will post more later if you are interested. This really happened.

14. Spirits Are Real
I lost my son two and one-half years ago. He has visited me, and I have PHYSICAL proof.

Six weeks after my son died, I got a call on my telephone answering machine. It was the pharmacy, telling me that a prescription was ready. Well, none of the rest of the family had been to the doctor recently. I go to the pharmacy and the prescription is for my deceased son. The medicine was 10 days' worth of Amoxicillin 500 mg for infections. I told the pharmacist that there had to be some mistake and asked who called in the prescription. The pharmacist said it was our family doctor (my deceased son's doctor as well). I explained the circumstances to the pharmacist and refused the medicine.

The next day I called our family physician and inquired as to who called in the prescription. The doctor's staff checked all of our files and said no prescription had been called in for us to our drug store.

Two days later, I'm sick with a sinus infection and go to our doctor. He prescribes for me Amoxicillin 500 mg, 10 days' worth. My son knew I would soon be sick and should start taking medicine NOW.

In the mail soon arrives an insurance advice saying they had paid for a prescription for my deceased son and the paper lists his name, about two months after his death.

If that is not enough for you, about six months ago, I'm home folding laundry by myself. I feel something hit me on my lower back. I turned around to see what it was. It was a folded towel my son had lost two years before he died.

He is such a scamp. He has done many more things, to me (usually when I'm alone and have no corroborators), and to his little brother (who comes screaming to tell me about it).

When we die, we do not feel dead. We among the living, in our limited physical state, simply cannot see our loved ones, but they are there, watching us and helping us if we open our minds and find the messages.

18. This happens
More so with husbands and wives and children and grandparents.

Your son most likely stayed to look after you to make sure you are alright, and because the environment is very comfortable for him. This is very common with folks who die "before their time", usually due to accident, foul play, stuff of that sort. They feel obligated to help the ones dear to them while they are still living.

He must have wanted to give you a head start with the cillin and knew you may have been either too sick to get it later, or he just wanted to do mom a favor.

Thank you very much for your account.

16. Promise not to tell anyone, because it was crazy, but...
my Father in Law killed himself in 2000. My husband collected up all his stuff and keeps quite a lot of it here in the basement. The other night I was working down here, and had the T.V. on C-span. We have Directv, and the receiver kept shutting off. Not the television, just the receiver. Anyway, when I turned it back on, it was always on ABC family channel...it was a little freaky, but I still blame it on faulty electricity.

19. Could be
Was the Family Channel something he watched a lot? Still could be faulty wiring, or funky satellite signals. Maybe somebody watches something he doesn't apporve of on that TV, so he makes sure there is always an "appropriate" channel on.

21. I was an extreme, almost militant skeptic until...
... I moved into a haunted house. What happened there over the years shook my skepticism to the very core.

It's so easy to "debunk" something you've never experienced personally, but for some of us there comes a time when we can no longer follow Bush's example and discard the facts that don't fit our preconceived dogma. When this happens to a faithful neo-con he may even become a liberal and cancel his subscription to slanted neo-con propaganda rags like The National Interest. When it happens to a hardened skeptic he may even become open-minded and cancel his subscription to slanted pseudo-scientific propaganda rags like The Skeptical Inquirer.

I was an open minded skeptic with great interest in the subject. Always wrote it off as a lark until I experienced things that could not be explained by ordinary means.

Most people don't report or even acknowledge such things because no one wants to be thought of as crazy, unreliable, scoffed at or laughed at.

22. I'll ask Becky next time she's in...
if she's real or not.

Long story short: She died in January, 1998. She still visits fairly regularly. She loves to hide things, open locked doors, pull comforters off in the winter, and generally scare the shit out of my otherwise fearless friend who refuses to enter the house unless either my wife or I are there.

Anyone want to know about my conversation with my granny? I was 38 when she died. About the time she died, she came into my bedroom, sat on the edge of the bed, as she had for many years when visiting, and chatted with me for several minutes about our relationship. We were VERY close.
She died in her own home across town. The coroner (who is also our fmaily mortician) estimated her time of death within an hour of our conversation. She died around midnight. One more item. She was bedridden at the time.

Your Granny probably wanted to touch base with you before she moved on to ..... wherever, I guess. This is also a common occurance. Some "spirits" like to wrap things up before they move on. Usually close family members get early communications such as this, right after the person had passed away.

26. I have had a few in my life
I have an Aunt who is pyschic. She is my mother's half sister and was born in Russia. She can see/sense ghosts, and gets premonitions. She is not crazy.
I work in a building that is haunted, and occasionally there is an incident. only one person has actually seen the ghost, but several have heard voices. Once in a while, everything will be disturbed in the morning like the phones will all be lying on the floor or the security alarm will go off for no reason but most of the time nowadays the ghost is pretty quiet.
My best friend grew up in a haunted house. I have heard voices as well as strange footsteps in the middle of the night there when I was staying in his basement. His sister had a real tough time with the ghosts--one even smacked her. I can attest to very, very eerie vibes in that house at times, where just being there made you very uncomfortable. I remember one time he had some people over, and we were all in the kitchen. All of the sudden the piano started playing, but the piano was in the 'den', a room closed off that no one was in---it was not right.

Sounds like his sister either did something the ghost did not like, or reminded the ghost of a person that they disliked in life.

27. My haunted house
I live in a haunted house. The house I live in was abandoned for over twenty years. My in-laws bought it recently and restore it. When it was left twenty years ago the people that lived in here left everything behind. The calendar was still on the wall and there was cereal bowls still left on the kitchen table! All the furniture was still here, everything... I don't know what happened, but I believe something scared the crap outta the people who lived here.
Since I have lived here for over a year now I have experience voices, footsteps, and flashes of light. I've heard things moving in the basement. I even have a picture of something weird that came out in my digital picture. It looked like a child's face. Oh yeah, sometimes my kids electronic toys start playing by themselves then I check them and they're turned off.
Some weird stuff going on in my house. But I haven't been afraid at all. This ghost isn't very interested in spooking anybody, at least I don't think it is?

30. HousePeople
Our neighbors insist they have ghosts. They refer to them as their HousePeople.

1) Twice they have returned from work to find the stove on.

2) Once one neighbor couldn't find her glasses. They both looked in both apartments and could not find them anywhere. They finally asked the HousePeople to return them. The next morning they were found in the center of the otherwise empty dining room table.

3) The same thing happened with a kitchen knife.

4) One neighbor was taking a shower while the other was out. THe power then went out. THe neighbor taking the shower noticed all the lights on the block were on so she went to check the fuses. She found their fuses unscrewed to the last thread.

5) Both neighbors swear they can hear the HousePeople, but cannot make out what they are saying. (We are not sure this is true. They may be hearing us yelling at our boys!B-))

Later,
JM

31. Mischief
They sound like tricksters, if they returned he items when asked. The shower thing sounds likea joke too, but maybe not a funny one.

Sounds like the HousePeople are contenet to live in the same space with your neighbors, but like to be noticed from time to time, hence the practical jokes.

At my workplace, one of the night securtiy guys had left his wallet out. Out of site, on a ledge under my desk, not out in the open. He went on his last building tour for the night, and when he returned, no wallet. He knew he brought it, because he came in with McDonalds food that night, and needed the Trolley pass that was in his wallet in order to get to work.

He was very distraught about his wallet, and the cleaners had left before he went on tour, so the building was empty and locked up tight for the night.

The next day, he told me all this, so I just told him to ask nicely that if the ghost knew where his wallet was, and if so, could it help him find it or return it to him. When he went home that night, his wallet was sitting on his computer desk with nothing out of it missing. AT HIS HOUSE! That one scared even me.

33. And sometimes they deliver.
An aquaintence stepped out of her front door one morning to pick up the Sunday paper. When she tried to go back in she realizied she had locked herself out of the house. Just as she was about to panic and maybe break a window to get back in, the mailman came up the walk and handed her the mail. One of the letters was from her out-of-town brother who had recently visited her. Inside the envelope was the spare house key she had lent him while he was there.

32. paranormal experience....
I used to live in an old apartment building in St. Louis when I was a kid. Sometimes stuff would be moved around in my room. One night, I woke up very late and my window was open. I leaned out the window and felt something pull me back in quickly. I turned my head and there wasn't anyone there. I was really glad when we moved to Texas.

34. i've had my share....
here are a few that come to mind right now. i was not under the influence of alcohol or any substance at any of these times:

1. late one night about 15 years ago i was laying on my futon in a light sleep and i felt somebody watching me. i opened my eyes and saw a small person sitting motionless and cross-legged on my bedroom floor looking right at me. it wasn't anyone i knew. i stared for several seconds and then closed my eyes and tried unsuccessfully to go back to sleep. when i opened my eyes again, the person was gone.

2. on my lunchbreak from work about four years ago, i was dealing with some problems and i got in my car and out of the corner of my eye i saw someone sitting in the passenger seat. he said something to me and then disappeared before i could turn to see him.

3. early one morning a couple years ago i heard someone walking on the hardwood floor of my hallway right outside my bedroom door. it sounded like the person was wearing shoes with hard heels and they were making no attempt to walk quietly or softly. it was loud and it woke me up. it also woke up my dog who was laying on my bed and her ears perked up and she looked at the closed door and started to growl. other than my dog, nobody else lived in my house. i jumped out of bed and opened the door and searched all over the place. nobody there.

i also used to experience lucid dreams every night, particularly when i was suffering from depression.

my experiences are boring compared to the experiences of friends of mine. i wish you could talk to some of them. i used to be very skeptical of these types of paranormal experiences. not anymore, man.

35. Wonder
I wonder if the person in your room and the one in the car were the same entity? Ghosts are usually more attached to a location than a person, since it takes a lot of energy for it to manifest itself(hence cold spots) and move from one location to the next if it is fixated on a person. Maybe an old friend looking in on you, or maybe something that keyed into your depression to give you companionship.

The frustrating thing about ghosts is they never explain themselves, and they usually only manifest if there is only one person present to witness the phenomena.

38. Hubby saw a little girl one time
He was working in a house and saw a little girl watching him. She seemed shy and afraid...he wasn't sure she was a ghost until she disappeared.
He asked the lady of the house about the ghost and she replied "How did you know we have a ghost?" (No, she hadn't said a word about it before) "I saw her", he said.

We've both seen cats that weren't there, as well, coming down a set of stairs, turning a corner and disappering.

Oh, and as a kid, I remember once walking back the lane at home and seeing the livingroom curtain move as if someone had pulled it back to look out. I waved and it dropped back into place. Only, there wasn't anyone in the house when I got there...my Granddad built the house and was buried across the road from it. I always figured he was just looking out for me!

Grandad probably watches the house when you aren't there. I've read about a ghosts who like their humans so much, they scare the hell out of burglers or home invaders.

Cats. dogs and even horses have been reported as discarnate entities.

she was spending the weekend with us. While she was taking a bath, she said, "Grandma, I swear to God...I swear to God I saw an angel when I opened my eyes this morning."

I told her that I thought that was great, but she didn't think so. She said it scared her.

Later, I tried to get her to talk more about it. She said, "Did you have a sister that died?" (My oldest sister died when my granddaughter was 6 months old..I never talked to her about it.) I said, "Yes."

She matter of factly stated, "Well, that was her."

42. Making sure
Making sure your granddaughter was alright by watching over her. Sometimes happens when a relative dies when there are new and young family members. Maternal instinct by proxy, especially if your oldest sister was the nurturing type, or family standard-bearer.

44. Well, I wouldn't say
she was the nurturing type. In fact, she never had kids. But not long after that, my granddaughter, her mother, and her mother's boyfriend, were going to move to KY and had rented a Penske truck. Just outside of KY something happened to the truck and the boyfriend lost control. The truck broke thru a barrier and flipped over a few times, rolling down an embankment. It finally came to rest against a tree. They struggled to climb out of a window, and just as soon as they got out, the truck caught on fire. No one was seriously injured, and my granddaughter just had a small cut on her foot. The truck, however, was burned to a crisp. I wondered later if the angel had anything to do with their escaping death or injury.

45. Highly possible
I have heard accounts of people being "shoved out of the way" of an oncoming truck, or being balanced by something before falling down a stairwell.

47. My sister's house - unbelievable.
You won't find a single person who has spent any amount of time in that house who will deny that there is "something" there - even friends/family members who vehemently deny any belief in the paranormal admit that the house has very evident (sometimes startling) peculiarities.

As a matter of fact, I told her just last night that I wanted to find one of those "ghost hunter" groups who would come in and take the electromagnetic field readings, etc., just out of curiosity.

The experiences I, alone, have had in that house are far too numerous to relate, here, and there are dozens more stories of unexplainable occurrences from my sister, her husband, their kids, my kids, my husband (and believe me, my husband is about as skeptical as they come), extended family and friends - from rappings on the walls, the sound of someone walking through the upper floors (when there is absolutely no one else in the house), the sound of water running, missing items that show up right out in the open, the sound of laughter/crying, the volume on televisions and stereos going all the way up when no one is near the equipment (and channels changing by themselves), to actual sightings (several people have seen a man wearing what they describe as a red, flannel-type jacket, hence, the "spirit" has been dubbed "Red").

If you want more details, I would be happy to provide them if you PM me. I can tell you, I've seen many skeptics turn into true believers after spending a night in that house.

48. Sounds
Sounds like a bona fide haunting. The occurances you describe are fairly common, in terms of hauntings.

There are a couple of groups, if I can remember them, I'll PM you the information. Real "ghostbusters" are folks that come in and rule out all terrestrial reasons for hauntings, via extensive testing, site history, if any occult activity by humans has been seen in or around the area. Once they've proven that no worldly things have caused the disturbances, they conclude the study and let you decide of you want to call someone who might be able to "remedy" it.

52. That would be great.
It would be so interesting to have someone with a background go through the house and rule out terrestrial reasons, as you said. I don't think she would want anyone to "remedy" the house, though. Nothing horrible has ever happened, other than a few incidents where people unfamiliar with the house have been frightened quite badly, and I think those of us who have been familiar with the house for years would miss "Red", actually. "He" kind of grows on you. :)

53. Probably not
"Red" sounds like he's comfortable there and is content to make himself known and pull the odd prank.

"Red" could also possibly the best anti-burgler protection they would want, seeing how he would be adamant to protect the humans he is now "living" with.

60. Interestingly enough,
my husband is a carpenter/builder, and he renovated the house next door to my sister's, and we rented it for a time afterward. While he was renovating, he was often there until three or four a.m. He told me of many strange things that happened in the house (the one next door - the one he was working on), and he said that if he didn't think someone would call him crazy, he would swear "Red" followed him over there.

After the house was finished, we lived there for nearly a year. Often, I would hear crashes upstairs - as if something very heavy had been dropped or thrown on the floor. I would run upstairs, worried about what had happened, and there would be nothing out of place. On one occasion, at around two in the morning, I was awakened by one of these crashes. I sat up in my bed (our bedroom was on the lower level of the house) listening, and I heard what sounded like heavy footsteps, a lot of rustling around and heavy objects being moved around. I went upstairs and peeked in both of my daughters' rooms. My oldest was sound asleep, but my youngest was semi-awake. I asked her if she had heard all of the noise I was hearing. She said that yes, she had. I asked, "And it didn't frighten you?" She answered, "Yes, a little, but I'm starting to get used to it."

I found the whole thing a bit disconcerting, but amazing, as well.

54. whisteling in the night
Edited on Fri Oct-31-03 03:09 PM by Supply Side Jesus
I was working the graveyard shift (typical!) with one other person listening to the radio. We heard a clear and distict whisteling. We both looked at each other and both new it wasn't the radio because the reception constantly sucked. Later that night when he morning crew came in we learned that someone died on shift in a accident about 3 years prior. We weren't the only to experience this obviously.

This is really my only experience with the supernatural (if it was). I always wished I could have majored in Paraphsycology.

56. Security Officers
Security Officers, of which I was one for a while but not third shift, often have a lot of stories. The company I used to work for had a client out in Plymouth Mass. where a lot of weird things happened, like one particular payphone would jiggle when the officer passed by it. The guy I spoke to who worked there told me matter-of-factly "yep, that place is haunted", and no one would call this guy's reliability into question.

S/Os who work 3rd shift regularly are night owls, so they are as alert at night as the rest of us are during the day, and they know they are not fatigued when they experience weird occurances.

These hauntings often go unreported because an S/O's competence come into question if they recount ghostly happenings.

55. I still can't explain this:
About 17 years ago, after we moved into this house, my wife and I first noticed a strong, flowery perfume smell floating across the room while we sat at the kitchen table. Since it was summer, we thought it was a fragerant plant of some neighbors (we don't have any such plants)

About a year later, the fragrence showed up again while we were talking to some friends on the front porch. This time it was late fall, nothing was blooming.

On New Year's Eve day in 1987, we returned from a trip early in the evening. (around 6PM). My son used the telephone in the den to call his friends to tell them he was home and hung up the phone. Immediately after he hung up, the phone rang and I answered it. While I conversed with a friend, my wife came up to me and indicated that she smelled something flowery. It was that damned perfumed smell again, and this time, it was dripping down the telephone! It was a thick syrupy liquid and showed up nowhere else. It got all over my hands but the smell wouldn't wash off. My son, who had just handled the phone had no odors or liquid on his hands.

It freaked us out.

The perfumy smell showed up one more time a year or so later....in my wife's car!... Since then, nothing.

I still have no clue as to what it was.

57. Odd one
That's an odd one. Smells or odors are a common manifestation of strange forces at work, but actually having tangible residue is extremely rare.

I don't suppose you collected a sample of it for later analysis, did you? That would be something to get analyzed in a lab! You might have trouble explaining how you got it though!

:)

61. LOL
That's what they all say.

It took a year for me to believe what I had experienced.

I just wrote it off and said "gotta be some explanation for this", then the 'ol brain kicks in and deletes it because we humans like to tie everything up neatly!

62. Odd smells
are sometimes caused by frontal lobe events called TIA's - related to epilepsy, but NOT if more than one person smells it.

Smells, especially flowery ones, are often associated with psychic events.

64. My experience for your halloween enjoyment
Edited on Fri Oct-31-03 03:46 PM by Blue_Chill
The people affected were my mother and sister, although 5 of us were their, 3 of us heard nor saw anything.

My father, brother in-law, sister, and I were in the basement staring the the monsterous TV that is my fathers pride and joy. My mother was upstairs on the phone enjoying a heated discussion with my aunt.

My sister asked us if we heard someting outside. We all said no, I heard nothing. A few minutes later she heard it again, according to her this time she heard a noise and someone calling her name. We hadn't heard a thing. The thrid time spooked us all, my sister shot off the couch visible shaken and told us she saw something outside and it screamed her name out. She didn't accept that we had heard nothing and went upstairs to ask my mom......

....My mom met her half way and they both almost at the exact same time asked "did you hear that?" Their stories were the same, they had both heard the noises just outside the house and the voice calling my sisters name.

After that night many family members including myself would hear someone calling our names, but only when the house was empty. I'd go out back for a smoke and hear someone inside calling my name only to find no one home.

This activity stopped in a few months, but not before my sister and mother both saw a man dressed in dark clothing in different parts of the house that would be visible for a second while turning a corner or disappearing up the stairs. I never saw anything but often saw heard footsteps when alone and wether this means anything or not saw my two cats hissing at and obviously reacting to something I could not see.
