Poll question: Best remake of a classic Sci-Fi/Horror Movie
Since the remake of the classic " The War of The Worlds" will be out in a few weeks, I thought I'd see what are some of your favorite remakes of other classic Sci-Fi/Horror films.

Peter Jackson's remake of " King Kong " will be out later in the year, and 2006 will have the release of the new "Superman."

1. Planets of the Apes 2001 would be the WORST remake
:P

I chose The Thing as the best, because it so clearly and utterly is.

8. I never saw that one
I walked through the filming of it - the part at the Flatiron building - but never saw the movie. It looked really bad.

16. There were parts of The Ape Planet remake that were deliciously...
enjoyable.

It could never match the delightful romp provided by an overwrought Heston in a loincloth...but it had its moments.

3. I saw that movie when I was around 10 years old.....
.... I had no idea it was going to be about giant rabbits.

That is one bad movie.

9. Definately "The Thing"
I loved the scene where the guys were chained together and Kurt Russell was testing their blood by dipping a hot wire in it. Also the scene where a severed head sprouts crab-like legs and scurries away. Classic!

20. My favorite quot from "The Thing":
"I know you gentlemen have been through a lot, but when you find the time, I'd rather not spend the rest of this winter TIED TO THIS FUCKING COUCH!"

Only seen the remake. So I'll have to vote after the viewing.

I didn't even know there was an original...

14. Of course, "The Thing". Are you kidding? It's one of the only examples...
...of a remake being far better than the original.

But...I also loved the remake of Dawn of the Dead, maybe even more than the original.

Maddox' review pretty much echoes my sentiments:

18. Voted for "The Thing" but is it really a remake? Or just the same title?
And a rough concept?

21. There's such thing as a good remake?
Seriously, film producers and directors who can't come up with anything new should find a new profession instead of messing around with other people's work.

War of the worlds is a different case since pretty much every film version that's been made has simply moved the setting from Britain in the late 19th Century to the modern day. I don't see this latest version as being a remake, more a new adaptation of a classic book.
